Plan of the Year 2018-Rather Ambitious Really
This article is part of a series:
2017 ended with my most prolific building since my teen years. Days before airbrushes, detail sets and decals. You built what was in the box, very little scratch building and hoped it looked like the one you saw in a Scale Modeler article. With current GB's ending in the 1st 1/4 of 2018 and with one announced to start the year, this helped a bit in what to select for the new as the old projects get completed. So here we go. Planned for the GB and personal choices for 2018.
- Tamiya Mitsubishi G4M1 Betty-New
- Tamiya Bristol Beaufighter Mk.VI (RAF GB)-New
- Tamiya Avro Lancaster Mk.III Dambuster (RAF GB)-shelf dweller since 2000,
- Revell Eurofighter Typhoon (RAF GB)-New
- Revell Blackburn SB.2 Buccanneer (RAF GB)-New
- Hasegawa Sikorsky SH-60B-another shelf dweller
- Airfix Martin B-26B Marauder-2016 backburner
- Academy AM General M-1025 Humvee-off n on since 1992
- Esci/Ertl AM General M-998 Humvee-
10.Tamiya Jagdpanzer IV L/70 Lang - Hasegawa General Dynamics F-111D Aardvark-New
- Tamiya Douglas F4D-1 Skyray-New
- Kitty Hawk Sepecat Jaguar Gr. Mk1 -2017 leftover
- Tamiya Chance-Vought F-4U Corsair -2017 leftover
Happy New Year

Ambitious indeed! Good luck!
Thanks Rob, appreciate that, the new stuff are actually not quick builds any of them. So it will be a work in progress especially finally finishing some old stuff as well.
Wow, I would feel lucky to finish more than two, can't wait to see what you get up to with this. Keep us posted.
Thanks Marc most of this will be posted on the WIP forums.
Quite a plan, Chuck! I haven't set one because most of my projects happen on a whim. Fine Molds Savoia S-21 and a Monogram P-51D on the bench now, both in 1/48, with a bunch of interesting projects calling my name. So many models, so little time...
Thanks Jaime, I know the feeling. Happy New Year!
Chuck, we're rootin' for you! Go get 'em!
Thanks Bernard,Happy New Year
Gee - my plan is to finish the 2 from 2017. Of course, that was 2017's plan as well, so ...
I'm cheering for you, Chuck !
Thanks Jeff, looking forward to what you get done. Happy New Year!
The G4M Betty is something I have been thinking about too for this year, along with the Beaufighter (as a possible for the RAF 100 Year GB or Kasserine Pass GB) and a Jagdpanzer IV Lang...I want to try out the stenciled "circle style" camouflaged pattern on it.
I'm really looking forward to seeing your builds this year. (Last years were great).
With the two new Group Builds coming up, and the Year of the Cat winding down, this should be a good year for us... I've been itching to build something that is a twin engine, possibly Luftwaffe or Japanese. (or both) ... Who knows ?
Nice selection of builds for the New Year you have made...
Somehow it seems that most of the upcoming builds are the multi-engine variety, when normally take more time to build. And more clear canopies to mask, yikes, the Betty and the Lancaster have lot's of glass. The Jagdpanzer is something I have been working on for the 5 - 6 years, off and on, came with a PE set. This is the kit that you advise how to paint the rubber portion of the wheels, which of course applies to any tank kit with rubber tires. Yep, will be an exciting new year, lets have fun.!
I wish you luck with your 2018 plans, Chuck...personally, I think you set the bar a little high (I'd never get all those builds done in one year). 🙁
Well, as Clint Eastwood once said, I quote "A man gots to know his limitations", personally I got this. Thanks for the inspiration Craig.
Ambitious plan Chuck, but as you well know from the military, plans seem to go out the window once the war starts. Wish you the best on executing the above kits, they surely will be nice additions to your collection.
Ambitious indeed Chuck, 14 builds in just 12 months must be some kind of record!
Your first project is a true Hangar Queen of mine. Started in 2010 when I got some resin upgrades for the kits huge office, but it proved to be a daunting task, and basically it turned me off. Hoping that you will not only complete it but deliver a great Betty model, so I’ll be following your post with great interest.
Whew - I'm worn out reading your list! May the modeling mojo never run dry!
