Eduard Me 109F-2

March 18, 2018 · in Aviation · · 22 Comments

This is the Me109F-2 in 1:48 built by me for Model Airplane International magazine where it will be feature soon. This is a very good kit, loads of detail in it especially in this, the Profipack version. Its perhaps not quite as good as the Eduard Spitfire, fit was a bit dodgy in a few places and the decals were surprisingly poor. Hope you enjoy the photos.

  1. That’s excellent, Alan. Very timely. I haven’t built a 109 in 26 years and recently acquired two Eduard kits to break that drought . Thanks for sharing.

  2. One of the better examples I've seen of late, Alan...exemplary build! I like it a lot.

  3. Masterpiece, not much else to say. Just beautiful. Look forward to the article.

  4. Excellent work, as usual. It was once thought that the Zvezda 109 Fs were the best in the mark in this scale - I wonder if still the case?

    • Kinda/sort of a tie between Eduiard and Zvezda. Eduard's molding is better and a higher degree of surface detail. Zvezda has the option of opening the cowling to see the engine. Zvezda is overall less expensive. I wish I could find their 109G, but it appears they made it out of unobtainium.

  5. Great Me 109! Congrats with the publication too!

  6. Alan, this is an excellent looking 109, very well done !

  7. A very fine build!

  8. Interesting. I'm of the opinion the revised 109 is better than the Spitfire, since there aren't any "dodgy" pieces like that upper cowling, and fitting the cockpit involves no pushing and shoving (as does the Spitfire, and in six tries I haven't found a way to avoid this).

    Nice work - as usual.

  9. Yes, very, very nice build Alan.
In between other 2 projects, I’m about to finish a 2 year build of the F version from Zvezda, and am doing an almost side by side of the Eduard and the Zvezda G-6.
My opinion, is that overall Eduard is superior, but Zvezda has the best ever Office of the 109 made in injected plastic so far. Here goes a couple of shots

  10. Beautifully done, Alan.

    Pedro, great start!

  11. Very nice build, looks like the real thing. In my opinion the wheels can be more flattened, but that's just a small thing. Great!

  12. Lovely Friedrich, Alan. That style of lighting shows up every blemish on a build (quite deliberately) and this seems utterly faultless.

  13. Pedro, I'd be interested in your thoughts on the newish Zvesda 109G. I am a fan of their Fs. The F is the prettiest of 109s, before all the bumps and additions.

  14. Alan, nicely done F. looking like I need to get me one.

  15. Lovely Alan - I love the mottled look you got on the fuselage - one of the best I've seen in a long time.

  16. Great job Alan. She's a beauty.

  17. Very nice 109, I wonder how the new Tamiya kit compares with it.

  18. Excellent. Very nice paint and weathering.
