Trumpeter 1/35 M198 155mm Towed Howitzer (Late)
This is the 1st and only stand alone cannon I ever built. I enjoy taking on different subjects and this fit the bill. This was a fairly easy, average level build appropriate for all model makers with a bit of PE bending experience. It is mostly OOB except for some plumbing and wiring which was an obvious need when looking at real photos of the M198. It can be built in either the towed or firing position and also is able to elevate (minimal elevation) and swivel on it's base. The tow arms can also be moved if you remove the locking pins (dont glue them in). It is fairly easy to paint and weather, especially if doing the scheme used in the photos. Paints are all Vallejo and AK Interactive acrylic with minimal weathering. I relied mostly on some dry-brushing techniques to enhance the details and break up the monochromatic finish. I also used some AK Interactive oil/enamel washes to help with this task. I had originally built to tow behind my 1/35 military trucks but I thought it looked to cool in firing position to stow it for towing. Overall I love the level of detail this kit provides, and it was engineered very well. IMHO another nice hit for Trumpeter! Hope you enjoy and all comments welcomed!
VERY nice looking build, Paul...I like it a lot.
Here's something we don't see often enough! Nicely done, Paul.
Hello Paul,
Indeed, special subject. I liked it very much.
Do you have the truck to pull it also in the pipeline?
Regards, Dirk / The Netherlands.
I built the truck but it was sold to a customer. The 155mm was also sold.
