Another Airfix 1/72 Ju 87B-1 Stuka (Condor Legion)

May 26, 2019 · in Aviation · · 10 · 1.9K

My friend Marty Sanford and I were inadvertently building Airfix Stukas in tandem (see Marty's May 19 post for his excellent finished product). I choose a nearly OOB approach, only adding seat belts made out of Tamiya tape. This is another nice Airfix production. The most finicky step was placing the observation port between the foot pedals and the engine housing. Rather than following the instruction sequence, I waited to place it until I glued the engine cowling to the fuselage. I painted the exterior with old fashioned Model Master Acrylics.

  1. That 1/72 Airfix Stuka is a real honey, and you've done a great job on it.

One thing about Stuka canopies i didn't learn till I did a 1/32 kit, most of those "frames" between the ones that frame the whole canopy are canopy stiffeners, and they are inside! Yeah, I know, a real "pain in the posterior." I don't know how many hundreds of thousands of us have been doing it wrong all these years, but we're a huuuuuge community. 🙂

  2. fine job and livery

  5. Great job! Cleanly built and it’s always good to see SCW types.

  6. Mean looking machine! Well done.

  7. Through your paintwork and photography, you really capture the menacing character of the machine, which is amazing at 1/72.

  8. Nice one! like the Stuka very much! The belly, show us her belly!

  9. Very nice! Looks great with those Spanish markings, though the porcine wheel spats are a hoot!

  10. Great job on this one, Dennis!
