Tamiya 1/48 Douglas Skyraider VNAF

This is my VNAF Spad, a very nice kit from Tamiya. Used some Eduard PE and decals from AOA, since the originals were too old. Cammo was free hand painted (Gunze) and I scratch built a few details, like the wiring to the ejection seat system and those static dischargers.

Hope you enjoy!

ps: by the way, the chart over the panel is a very reduced WAC 1:1000.000 of South Vietnam. 🙂

  1. Excellent Skyraider, George!
    Great camo and weathering!

  2. Looks great! It has been in my stash for a very long time, I should take a look on it again. Maybe I will start it. 🙂

  3. Fantastic result, George.
Your free hand painting is very nice.

  4. Looks awfully good! Like the camou and weathering. The little wires and things bring out that little extra in your model.

  5. I'll agree with all the other comments. I built one long ago, but made the paint in bare metal with Italian wing decals...wrong idea for me, but your model is right on.

  6. Wow, this is just great. You got the windshield right (unlike the rest of us), and it's dirty enough the pilot can climb aboard in complete confidence of safety.

The paint work is superb, as is all the rest of the work.

    Definitely "liked"

  7. Some real strong work in the painting dept. I like the fading or the scale paint job. It represents the strong sun, heat and humidity of Nam. Which faded the paint.

    Two thumbs up George.

  8. Wow, great paint and stores. That thing is BIG. You musta had fun painting those exhaust streaks, eh?

  9. Thank you! As a matter of fact, I was very concerned about getting the right flow "geometry", so I I painted them before even glueing the wings to the fuselage, so I could have more room to use the airbrush. Of course, it was only possible being a Tamiya kit with no fitting issues at all.

  10. Can't really add anything that hasn't been said above except to say well done.

  11. The weathering and stains on your Skyraider really make it look the part, George (@george72). The map is genius!

  12. It's all been said George, but I had to put in my comments anyway. Just looks fantastic; weathering, paint , detail & the extra touch - your map!

  13. Nice work. Great painting!

  14. Looks awesome! I really like the detail on the ordnance.

  15. Like everyone else, I call it a beauty! Love the paint and weathering work, and the added details always are the feather in the cap.
