Eduard 1/48 Fokker D.VII

December 4, 2020 · in Aviation · · 10 · 1.9K

My first WW1 completed. Ernst Udet's DVII (OAW) Jasta 4 Beugneux-Cramoisselles airfield, France, June 1918.
There are so many different opinions on the colours, some say there was a black nose, the stripes were top of the upper wing only, etc. Some say it was a high gloss finish. I went with what I liked the look of the most. Hope you like.

  1. The main argument against the lower surface of the upper wing being painted is that it's hard to paint a surface above you, something I found true working on F4U-7 BuNo 133722 50 years ago.

That said, this is a really really nice looking model, Paul, and a great way to enter the World of World War I Modeling. Watch out, it's been known to be addictive.

    "Liked" (a lot)

    • Thanks mate.
I thought that too, about painting upwards. But figured, maybe Ernst was adamant it should be done. Lol. Who can say. It was probably lozenge. ?
      I'm definitely addicted. I have a growing stashand have started a Nieuport 11. ?

      • A "Bebe" is a perfect second step. It's got rigging, but the rigging is simple. There's some neat markings for it, too. Look for some of the Aeromaster sheets that can still be found on EvilBay.

  2. Excellent build and painting, Paul!
    Welcome to WWI modeling!

  3. Very nicely done, Paul.
Nice details, like that engine label for example.
