Get To The Choppah
Revell original issue H-19 with Caracal decals. MM Glossy Sea Blue with a final coat of MM Semi Gloss Lacquer. Really out of the box with the exception of adding screening for the engine access openings. I also added some clear styrene fuselage windows as the old kit had none. Back growing up we used to knock these out on a Saturday afternoon, granted not with all the parts. Not bad for a kit released in 1955 or so. Korean War markings. The Caracal sheet is excellent and enough to build another kit. Next up and already started, the box scale Monogram B-26 Invader-OOB.
Hello Clark and I offer my compliments on a fine build of an old Revell kit. She looks great in her GSB paint and USMC markings. I share your feelings about taking one of these older kits and seeing what can be done with it. You've done quite well with this one.
Thanks Jim, yeah the old bird turned out nicer than I ever expected! I appreciate your comments...
It's almost a shame when someone does an original-issue as a nostalgia or "fun" build but work like this is a great use of an old kit, not a "waste" at all. It's better you built it than someone else, and an actual improvement over seeing old parts in an old box for historical reasons. Very good workmanship and still way cool.
Good evening and thank you John. I've got another one in the stash, a good home for the other markings.
Absolute great work on this oldie, Clark.
Good to see this kind of results on older kits, besides their drawback they can still results in great builds like you have shown.
Hello John, yes it was a fun build. Revell was ahead of the game when they released this one. Thank you.
Great work on this oldie and a super result.
I think that old Monogram B-26 (boy does it "take me back" to remember building one or ten) is close to 1/72. I do know you can certainly make it competitive with the old Airfix kit.
Thank you Tom! I'm working on the -26 already...stay tuned and no glue smears on it either.
Great job, Clark!
I love seing oldies accopmplished in such excellency!
Hello again Spiros. Thank you. The kit fit together amazingly well. Weak points are the clear parts and interior. The front windscreen was a bit of a short shot but a bit of white glue hid that. Who knows, perhaps we'll see a new release down the road.
Ah glue smears, sniff, oh no that came later, just kidding. Great work on a classic! Love the old kits,I'm finishing up a Monogram Ford Tri-motor.
Thanks Robert...looking forward to seeing your Trimotor. Are you going to use the Eskimo and sled dogs...awesome kits..
I think that I'm taking the dogs some where else.
Hello Clark,
Beautiful model. Not to forget, the helicopter that started the airborne assault.
Semper Fidelis, Dirk.
Good afternoon Dirk! Yes, the early helicopter paved the way for those that fly today. The H-19 certainly deserves a new mold along the lines of the H-34 and Huey.
Nicely done!
Thanks Greg...yes the old gal turned out okay. I appreciate the comment.
Looks great, I love seeing the older kits made like this. Nice job!
Thanks Bob! You know I have another one getting ready to start!
