Last Pistons...1/48 Lavochkin La-11 "Fang", 911th IAP Soviet Airforce
17/2021
Ark Models kit, Eduard seatbelts, EZ Line for antenna
Painting instructions call for cherry red, but there are lots of different cherries...my dad used Tamiya X-7 Gloss Red with a touch of brown.
The cockpit detail is a bit sparse, only decals (not 3D decals like with some La-9/11 Ark Models boxings) for the side instruments.
The distinctive Lavochkin two metal coloured cowl rings are missing so my dad masked and painted them.

The 911th IAP received their first La-11s in 1948. In July 1949 the regiment was transferred from Bolshaya Elan in Sakhalin to Uelkal in the Chukotka Peninsula, the most north-eastern part of the USSR. There they escorted strategic Tu-4 bombers. Because of the all white surroundings the planes were painted red.

Another masterpiece, Reinhard!
Love the red!

Nice work, Reinhard. I’ve always thought these look like the offspring of of an La-7 and a FW-190.

Unique Soviet Camo. Similar in purpose to USAF arctic red (actually insignia red) painted planes.

Beautiful build, Reinhard.
Cherries can indeed have all kind of red tones.
I think your dad did pick a good matching color for this one.
Well done.

Now that's a nice way to light up the display case! another great build. I don't think I have an 11 in my stash - may have to start looking for one...
