Aleutian Tiger, NOT...1/48 Curtiss P-40K Warhawk, 18th FS/343rd FG, USAAF
1/2022
When my dad started the Aleutian P-38 last year, I thought wouldn´t it be nice if it had some company?
So he built a P-40K. Sadly 1/48 decals for this theatre are rare and we didn´t want to do a usual tigerhead scheme. Finally found a nice scheme from DK Decals.
Used the Hasegawa kit, EZ line for brake lines and antenna wires, seatbelts done with decals from the sparesbox, block tread tires from Ultracast.
Had some problems attaching the rear windows. As most of the time my dad tried it first with Micro Klear. To avoid a visible bead, he only applied it sparsely. Therefore the windows fell out again. the he used plastic glue, which ate into the surface. Removed the windows again, sanded and polished them and tried it again with Micro Klear. Also had to do some repainting. All in all the rear window area doesn´t look that nice now.
Painted the camo with Tamiya XF-53 Neutral Grey and a selfmixed olive. The DuPont painted replacement parts are done with AK Real Color Dark Earth and Dark Green.

Another great model, Reinhard! The rear windows are a challenge in many P-40 kits. Your windows look very good!
Again, congratulations!
Love the faded paint work on this! I have two P-40's almost to the paint stage, and just secured a couple of sets of DK decals (I'd never heard of them until now). Anything I should know using them?
Thanks a lot Greg! My dad had no problems with them. Well, you never know, depending how old they are and how they´ve been stored (temperature, humidity...) He used them once before for an Aussie Spitfire, can´t remember any problems back then either.

Nice work on my favorite P-40 variant!
Your dad made a perfect start in 2022 with this build, Reinhard @grimreaper
The OD and weathering is great, hope to be able to achieve that on my current build as well.
Lovely paint job! As a side note, I was assigned to the 18 TFS "Blue Foxes"/343 TFW at Eielson AFB, Alaska from 1985-1988 flying A-10's. The squadron later converted to F-16's and was an "Aggressor Squadron" the last time I checked.
Great looking P-40!
Nice looking Warhawk & Lightning . Great job !
Fantastic work with my fav P-40!
I would like to thank you for such a fine rendition of my Fathers P-40K "Flamin Mame". Lt. Paul Budesa flew with the 18th 42-43. If you go to flickr look up Karl Budesa my photostream has 18th and 40th fighter squadron pics I down loaded from my Fathers scrap books. he flew with the 40th in Korea. Dad belonged to the P-40 warhawk pilots association. He also flew a P-40N that had Flamin Mame also.
