Academy 1/72 IL-2 Stormovik

March 1, 2022 · in Aviation · · 8 · 1.4K

Finished this Xmas present that my daughter gave me. 1/72nd aircraft kits are good quality (IMHO) but this kit maybe just a little over-engineered. The cockpit assembly is nicely detailed but I almost broke it trying to fit it into place. Should have ignored the instructions. They also aren't clear on how to build this with wheels up even though you are provided a set of flat bottomed wheels that are meant to snuggle up into the wheel wells (I think). Otherwise the gear down have really finicky struts to contend with for alignment. And I would have liked to have used the box art decals but had alredy glued the trim tab linkage in place and would have done that last had I seen that sliding the decal behind it would be so tight a fit. So I used another set of decals from the generous sheet provided. I'm really liking Russian WW2 aircraft and this will look nice next to my YAK-2. Thanks Lianne...
