"Now with improved chickens"

March 19, 2022 · in Uncategorized · · 11 · 1.2K

For those not familiar Tom Daniel was a model car designer who worked for Models during the heyday of "Show Rods" during the 60s and 70s. , AMT MPC and even and Hawk got into the business, but the only one that came close to the fame of Tom Daniel was Ed "Big Daddy" Roth. For me Tom Daniel's designs were the best, and Monograms' kits were simple to build fairly inexpensive and looked great when done. Red Baron, S'Cool Bus, Paddy Wagon, T'Rantula and Rommels Rod were some of his best sellers. This one Tijuana Taxi has an interesting history. At some point prior to Monogram's acquisition of Revell, the molds for Tijuana Taxi and Rommels Rod were lost. Revell/Monogram reverse engineered these kits and released them in the 90s. Tijuana Taxi touted "improved chickens". The kit was a blast, a bit fiddly, but still way better than the one I built in about 1969!

  1. That sure qualifies as pretty derned wild.

  2. I had to buy a bottle of Vallejo violet for the seats. 100 bottles of paint and I had no version of purple of any kind!

  3. I love it, Rob, sounds like an advert for KFC, the Chinese favourite fast food. Couldn’t you mix red and blue to make purple.

  4. Excellent job, Rob! I love these kits! Very interesting history regarding the reverse engineering of the lost molds.

  5. Superb build, Rob @robertandy
Really like those 'other than normal' builds.
    Well done.

  6. Another nice Daniel's build, looks great! I think their more recent Rommel's ride is a new mold ailso.

  7. Fond memories! I built the S'Cool Bus and the Boot Hill Express back in my youth...
