1/24 Huey Gunship
Hi all.
It's been a while since I've posted. I've been grinding away at this 1/24 Huey. Man it was a beast, but a ton of FUN! I built this kit in the mid 1970's when it was Monogram. This particular kit was the Revell version so probably the same molds. I picked it up at an estate sale and had to go online to get decals for it. In the end, a good friend on FB had a spare set of the original Monogram decals. Interesting I found three different copyrights molded on the parts; 1968, 1974 and 1976.
Interesting how this comes together. Most of the work is on the cabin and engine compartments. I did not put much work into the engine area, as the whole thing gets closed up inside the fuselage. In the cabin I used a variety of washes to "dirty" things up. I was trying to capture a working bird with a lot of muddy boots getting in and out of it.
Outside, I airbrushed panel lines before laying down my own mix of OD. I dry brushed the chipping then gloss coated for the decals. After a dull coat, I tried to capture the downward exhaust on the tail boom.
I wish someone would come out with a 1/24 OH-6 "Loach" I could pair up with this thing. That would be awesome!
Dedicated to those who flew and fought! Welcome home!
