23 - 1/48 Academy Lavochkin Lav-7
This was a pretty straight forward build, went together easily enough and had no real issues.
I decided to do the Aircraft of Captain Aleksei Alelyukhin. Painted red by his mechanics and flew over Berlin as it fell to the Russians to dig the knife in deeper.
A fund build and the painting was nice, I enjoyed doing something a bit different to the usual camo colours.

Beautiful build, Anthony!
Have built the same kit and too found it a straightforward build!
Hey Spiros - went to look on your build thread and couldn't see it - have you put it up on iModeller?
Excellent work, Anthony @anthonyricco
Great scheme and superb weathering.
Thanks John, yes the scheme was a fun one and the weathering was also quite nice to do
This is A+ effort and result Anthony! I really like the red scheme. It really makes the plane stand out and highlights your awesome work on this kit
Thanks a lot David, I appreciate the comments - yes was nice to do something a bit different to the usual.
Very cool and so well done @anthonyricco! Love the red paint job! ?
Thanks Gary, the red was fun to paint, a different experience.
Oh yeah - adding another La-7 to the stash to replicate this scheme! I love the unusual schemes and I'd never seen this one. What did you use for the red color, and do you have any links to references for the scheme? Weathering and paint look great on this!
Hi Greg, yeah the unusual schemes are fun to do. I used Tamiya's Pink primer underneath then Tamiya XF-7 for the red colour. On the bottom I primed it grey and then used a blue to mottle for texture. The I mixed the main blue underside color by eye using some references. If I remember correctly it was a mix of sky blue and grey.
Unfortunately I couldn't find any references of this particular red plane. So I looked at other red planes, then I found Lavochkins with the steel side exhaust plate that I liked (some were different), and then looked at normal lavochkin's for the weathering which I tried to tone down as it would have been quite freshly painted over for the celebrations.
Yes, looks good in red!
Thanks Reinhard, something different hey.
The red arrow 🙂 quite flamboyant huh? Very nice model John!
Thanks for the compliment Pedro. Very Flamboyant must have been horrible for the Germans seeing it flying. over their capital.
I guess you could NOT miss that flying overhead, painted like a Soviet Flag!
Excellent job, Anthony.
Thanks George, yeah must have been humiliating for the Nazi's. Appreciate the compliments.
Red Star Red Baron? Very nice representation of the La-7.
Haha, I never thought of that another dig at the Germans. Thanks a lot Dan.
