1/48 TF-104G

This is the well known kit. I originally bought it with the intention of doing a camouflaged German example using the excellent Victory Models German Starfighter decal set. When I realized that the kit's “Boelcke Special” decals actually looked usable, I changed my mind. The white parts in the Hasegawa decals are actually white. They performed pretty well but are slightly translucent. At the end of the day I'm happy with it.

I used an Eduard PE set to dress up the ejection seats which are very visible under the large canopy. I built it closed because the parts fit almost perfectly and I wanted to preserve the unique lines of the 2 seat Starfighter.

The wings are designed to be fitted with tip tanks and are a couple MMs long in span. I chose to ignore this.

The paints are Mr. Color 80 and 34 blue mixed per the kit's instructions with a Future gloss coat after decals.

This is the second Hasegawa that I've built and plan to do several more. I can't resist a shiny jet!

  1. John, that's an awesome paint scheme and really nice job on the kit. The Starfighter has worn some really cool non-tactical paint schemes. I've often thought about doing one in a NASA scheme, but haven't got around to it yet. Thanks for sharing your superb skills.

  2. Wow, that's really beautiful work @j-healy. It's so clean! The detail in the cockpit looks really great.

  3. Beautiful work John! That scheme is quite unique, and a joy to see. Also, pure white Hasegawa decals... it can't be... 😉

  4. I have to say fantastic, a very well done clean build. Hard to accomplish and you nailed it! The scheme looks fantastic.

  5. Looks very well turned out, John.

  6. An amazing build, John!
    Congratulations!

  7. A real beauty John. Absolutely lovely.

  8. You have chosen wisely to go for this scheme, John @j-healy
Even though a 104 looks beautiful in camouflage as well, this scheme makes it look even better.
    Well done.

  9. There aren't many planes that look better than an F-104, John (@j-healy). The bright and complex paint scheme really came out well. My first assignment in the Air Force was at Luke AFB in Phoenix, which was the training base for the German F-104s at the time. It was really cool to drive past the F-104 flight line on the way to work every day.

  10. Great job on this @j-healy! Very attractive paint scheme on a nice neat build. Thanks for sharing!

This is an excellent looking Star fighter. I never knew such a Luftwaffe paint scheme existed. It really looks cool. I have seen some of the more standard Luftwaffe schemes in real life during a deployment we made to Germany. These are some very impressive jets.

I definitely clicked on the "like" button.

    Take care and Merry Christmas.

    • Thanks Louis. It’s a one off anniversary scheme. I have a weakness for colorful, clean jets. Lots of cool special schemes were applied to 104s by NATO operators. Great modeling subjects. Merry Christmas to you too!

  12. Very nice! That's a really stellar scheme on the Starfighter (no pun intended...). One of the more colorful I've seen. Well done.

  13. Excellent John Healy (@j-healy) - thats an awesome scheme on a brilliantly made plane.
