Revell of Germany 1/144 Landing Ship Medium

January 16, 2023 · in Ships · · 20 · 1K

Last year and a half I devoted it to scale, this is the last model of that effort, I improved many details with plastic sheets, strips and rods, copper wire, brass rod and tubes, piano wire, thin aluminum paper and replaced the weapons and drums with items from L´Arsenal and Black Cat, the gun director was sourced from Shapeways, I also used some of the photoetched bits form the Nautilus Models set. After studying several pictures of these ships I decided to include a canopy for the conning tower and a basketball set at the base of the tower. The loading gates were linked to the cylinders to open and close like the real thing and finally I gave the Shermans extra armor and the deep wading system. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Al those little details are giving this build so much more realism,
    Well done.

  5. Very nice Ruben. I wanted to ask what the 4th. to last photo of the checkered taping is about .
Was that masking for accenting panels ?
    Thanks for showing.

    • Thank you for your question. Yes, the surfaces were textured with primer in different colors and layers and after painting with slight tonal changes, but it´s not easy to see that on pictures.

  6. Nicely done, an unusual subject.

    • Thank you, I selected it because of the scale, I usually do not build ships but this one was big enough to give it a try for detailing it. I also have the 1/144 USS Fletcher waiting to be built, that one is going to be a huge project for me.

  7. Fantastic indeed, Ruben!
