Academy 1/144 RB-47

April 21, 2023 · in Aviation · · 8 · 565

For some time now I've schemed to build a collection of post WW II US bombers but never could find enough space for display. Thwarted for years, I finally discovered 's scale kits and the problem was solved.

These are amazingly good and detailed kits, and they assemble like a Tamiya AFV, easy and seamless. I'm very impressed with them.

I primed the assembled model with Tammy fine grey primer, then used Alcad's Gloss Black base. Once dry, two coats of Alcad Polished Aluminum was applied. After 12 hours or so a coat of Alcad clear gloss arcylic went on because decal setting solution will attack Alcad paint. 6 hours later the decals went on and presto done. The base is a simple piece of foam insulation painted in acrylic colors.

I found this model to be a very enjoyable project, I had alot of fun with it.

  1. Excellent job as usual and a fantastic result, Mark! Looks like 1/144 is the perfect scale for bigger planes such as this one and it is great that Academy produced a fine kit.

  2. Great result, Mark @markh
Absolutely no sign that this is just 1/144. All the details and excellent paint work make it look like a much bigger model.

  3. Nice build! I always was space challenged. that's why most of my fighters are 1/72 , and most of my multiengine are 1/144 or close.

  4. Thanks gents I'll be doing more of these

  5. Impressive start to what could be a great collection.
