1/144 Academy Bone
The next installment in my 1/144th bomber fleet. Academy has upped their game quite a bit in recent years; this was a fine kit with excellent fit and detail. It assembled seamlessly.
I tried to finish it in Mission Models Gunship Grey but even after three coats it was a nasty, blotchy mess so I switched to Tammy Dark Sea Grey with a bit of their Flat Black mixed in. This proved acceptable, and glosscoat with decals were applied. I washed the model in Flory's Black, and then sealed it up with Model Masters Flat Clear acrylic thinned down probably 60%.
Enjoyed this one immensley also
Your own mixture for the gunship grey turned out very nice, Mark @markh
Even at 1/144 this B1 is large aircraft. Well done.
Thank you sir the quality of the kit helps make me look good also
Fantastic result, Mark! I think 1/144 for the B-1 is just about the right scale, 1/72 is good too, 1/48 (I own the Revell kit ðŸ¤), is maybe too much.
Thanks brother I'd have liked 1/72 but I don't think anyone molds one. The Revell 1/48 is supposed to be pretty nightmarish and enormous when done so I've heard
I too have had problems with Mission Models paints. I did everything exactly as their YouTube tutorial showed, same thinning ratio, same pressure. I even have the same Harder & Steenbeck Evolution Silverline airbrush used. But it just gummed up my airbrush and took FOREVER to clean out, even with automotive lacquer thinner. I know there are people who get fine results with it, but to me it's just more trouble than it's worth.
Looks great - punches bigger than its scale!
That looks awesome. 1/144 is the perfect scale for planes like this.

Nice work ! It looks really good, and your mix of Dark Gray looks spot on to me. I have the 1/48 Monogram version, like Spiros does. Recently I picked up some new decals, and Barracuda Resin parts for it to take it up a notch or two.
These planes are SO cool to see flying. On occasion they show up here at the start of a NASCAR race, escorted by F-16's or F-15's. They are a big plane too. You just don't realize how big they are until you are standing next to one.
Outstanding ! I'll click on the "like" button too.
Looks like 1/144 is the ideal scale, and your grey mixture worked really well.
Nicely done Mark, I have two 1/72 kits.

Thanks gents
I did not take this scale seriously before, thought such a model would be toylike. I was wrong again
Must...resist...getting...one...of...these...
But sadly your fine model tipped the scale, and now I really need to try it!
You'll not be disappointed sir. Thanks for the nice comment
