P-51H Mustang, 1/72

May 26, 2023 · in Aviation · · 17 · 361

This my in scale, built from the RS Models kit. The kit was quite heavily modified to correct some shape issues, and I used the undercarriage and some of the photo-etch from the CMR kit. The model represents the aircraft flown in around 1947 by World War II ace Claude Crenshaw who named it after his wartime P-51D. NMF is Alclad II with other paint from a range of sources. Decals from the kit, Techmod for stars & bars and buzz numbers, and Superscale for the aircraft name.

  10. All of above, great job! What is the kit?

    • Hi Robert, the kit is made by RS Models, and is a short-run injection offering that has recently been re-released. They do a 'USAF' version and an 'ANG' version. The dimensions and shape are mostly OK, apart from the tail department which is a bit of a mess. I spent a lot of time correcting that, using the excellent 1/48 Modelsvit kit as a guide. I also used flaps from an Airfix D-model slightly reshaped. As it's a short run kit you need to do a fair bit of clean-up and cut the canopy if you want to display it open. Once the memories fade a bit more I'll use the kit as the basis for a set of XP-51F/G/J.

  11. Nice clean builds Justin, all four, welcome to iModeler.

  12. Really nice! A great collection of ponies. Welcome aboard!
