F6F-3 Hellcat (Eduard 1/48)
This is recently re-issued 8227 ProfiPack with a well-known Hellcat in this scale. I wanted to try new Eduard aftermarket offerings, so I've added 3D printed wheel bays and bronze legs. It's nice additions to the quite old kit, especially the wheel bays with excellent details. Everything plays together really well. For national insignias and numbers I was using custom made masks, everything the rest is HGW wet transfers (stencils) and kit's decals.
Excellent construction of the model and a very good paint job! I liked it a lot, congratulations.
PD.: I have the doubt if construction is written. Is it correct or a bad translation?
@federicoschulze Thank you, Federico! As a non-native English speaker I couldn't give any advices, but I would use word "build".
@starfar - Very nice work Dmitry. The paint and detailing is really good. I really like that the 004 looks hand written. Is is a decal or did you actually paint it that way? It's very realistic and seems like it would have been just spray painted on in the field quite frequently.
@brithebuilder Thanks Brian! 004 is the kit's decal, and it was spray painted on the prototype by the ground crew, that's right 🙂
What a wonderful result, Dmitry @starfar
A not so often seen scheme on a F6F.
I do like how the national insignias with the custom made masks turned out, what did you use for that.
@johnb Thank you, John! I have the Silhouette cutter, so I've re-painted insignias and numbers in a vector editor and cut them on a vinyl self-adhesive film.
That is a really pretty build. I love the paint colors and weathering. I have used lighter washes on darker colors and like the way it looks. You really have beautiful build there. Nice work on the masks too.
@luftwaffe-birdman Thanks Walt!
Excellent work on your Hellcat. The painting, decal application and weather finishes are amazing!
@v1pro Thank you, Bob!
Excellent work as usual Dmitry @starfar
The “breaking” of the topside blue is just perfect
@holzhamer Thank you, Pedro! Yeah, the painting was the main joy of this build. I like freehand camo patterns.
What a great looking Hellcat and paint Dimitry @starfar. Love the choice of markings. This kit is not that old. Scalemates says Eduard’s F-6F-3 was a new tool in 2008 but I’m sure it was based on their F6F5 that came out in 1996.
@eb801 Thanks Eric!
Fantastic result on a not that often seen scheme, Dmitry! Excellent!
@fiveten Thank you, Spiros!
This is an excellent result. I like it!
@mfcg Thank you, Giannis!
Very nicely done, Dmitry. The wheels, struts and bay detail are all excellent...cool Hellcat!
@jroamer Thanks Joe!
Very neat build and finish, Dmitry, I especially like the way the yellow tips of the propellor blades show up in your pictures, very clever.
@chinesegeorge Thank you, George! I do prop tips before black painting, it's always easier to put yellow on top of grey primer than black paint.
One of the best Hellcats I've seen. Your paintwork is outstanding.
@dtravis Thank you, Dale!
That is a real beauty, and like others, I love that scheme! What era was it? I don't know that I'd seen that before. I am going to HAVE to build one in 1/72!
@gkittinger Thank you, Greg! The prototype is from 1944, Nissan Island. And regarding 1/72 scale – Eduard has it, and I've built it, great model!
I've just done one of these re-releases. the new resin wheel wells really improve things. I also used a Bitskrieg prop to replace the kit prop, which is very wrong.
Nice result on this, @starfar. I like the oddball scheme.
@tcinla Thank you, Tom! What you can say about Bitskrieg? I didn't try their product yet.
Well done, Dmitry
@gwskat Thanks Gary!
Wow, this is an immaculate paint job, I was staring at it for a long time, well done.
@anthonyricco Thank you very much, Anthony!
