Trumpeter Vought F4U-1D Corsair 1/32

July 5, 2023 · in Aviation · · 28 · 0.6K

Hello everyone. I'm back after a while for this new model. Again it is a Corsair but with markings and paint used by the British in the Pacific theater.
The original kit is from Trumpeter which comes with good details and gave almost no problems at the time of assembly. For the cockpit details I again added Eduard PE to visually lift it up and make it look better. I also added extra details to the front landing gear with wires, springs and some rust.
The decals are from Techmod and they turned out to be very good.
The exterior colors are from Tamiya and for everything else I used AMMO.
I finally decided to make it look used, very used. To achieve this I dirtied it with pastel chalk and above all to achieve the wear of the chipping color I used prismacolor pencils, mostly silver, dark gray and black. It took some time since the model is big, but in the end I think I got a result pretty close to my goal.
To finish and as in past models, I added an electric engine to make the propeller spin and make it look more real.
I hope you like it. I'll be back soon with two more ready to show you.
Have a great one.

This is how it looks with the spining propeller

  1. Where's the photo of your model?
Thanks for the photo of your VERY well-done model.

  2. Excellent result on this big Corsair, Enrique!

  3. Great work, don’t see many of these kits built in the web.

  4. She looks great! liked a lot, congratulations!
The spinning propeler gives that final touch, very well done!

    • Hi Manuel. Thanks for the comment. Yes the spinning propeler make it look like a real one but tiny. 😀
Next challenge is to make the lights turn on, don't you think?
Have a great one my friend

  5. This Corsair looks amazing, Enrique @quiquelopez
The visibility of that detailed engine is great, as well as the weathering, chipping, to be honest, everything is great.

    • Hi John. Thanks for your comments. To make it look old is a really challenge and takes time. Chipping with Prismacolor pencil is great, gives you a lot of control over the areas to be mark. Better than using a pice of sponge. Trumpeter has some kits with transparent plastic and really helps to show all the work done in those inside parts like the engine.
Have a great one John and keep building

  6. Really nice work on this! Detail and finish are top notch. Thanks for sharing your work!

  7. @quiquelopez - Fantastic work Enrique! The weathering looks great.

  8. Nice work, Enrique! Always good to see BPF planes.

  9. Very nice weathering job!

  10. Nice work on this big kit, Enrique, the weathered finish is particularly convincing. The lights would be good, but a soundtrack would be even better.

  11. Your big Corsair looks great in Fleet Air Arm colors, Enrique (@quiquelopez). Well done.

    • Hi George, thanks for your comment. I saw a picture art of one of this in a dog fight with a japanese zero over an island on the pacific sea and was the inspiration for building this great plane. Different from the dark blue used for the US Marines. Bye my friend. Keep building.

  12. A terrific result Enrique. I especially like the superb cockpit & the huge effort you have put into your weathering.
I use Prismacolor pencils myself, so I know the time it takes to achieve such excellent results.

    • Hi Tony. I have the idea that the cockpit, the engine and the landing gear have to be done with a lot of detail (at least try to do it). So I spend time on those three expecific parts of the plane. Some times it turns a headache for all the details but at the end feels great to see the plain with all those tiny parts.
Chipping with prismacolor is a great solution and at the end looks close to a real one on those conditions. Also to make it look dirty from the engine smoke at the bottom the pastel chalk is always my choise.

I saw your blog and all your work is great. You have a lot of experinece after all those years and is nice to hear a comment of my planes from you a Senior modeler.
Thanks! Have a great day and lets keep building don´t you think.
