Harley Davidson 1971 XFE 1200 Super Glide

October 8, 2023 · in Automotive · · 26 · 250

While I await my modelers block and other life situations to go away, I offer one of my favorite builds. I built this July of 2022.

It 's 1/6 kit # 16010. The “body” came molded in blue

But it called for “Pearl Blue”. I Ordered that color but instead of the spray can I got a small bottle of lacquer which meant thinning it and GASP airbrushing it on. Those who know me know how much I loath airbrushing ; ). I also dont like working with lacquer But I have to say it came out pretty good. . I loved the rake of the front fork, just a really handsome looking bike.

Here some details on the bike I got from the instructions

In styling, function and power the FXE-1200 is a subtle blend of FLH power and Sportster aesthetic appeal. It has the power and reliability of the Big Twin with the smooth good looks of the XL. Featuring a long fork and sleek teardrop tank, it has a low, stylish appearance.

The FX (same as FXE only without electric start) was introduced in 1971. It appeals to the masculine mystique with its rugged, singular good looks. It is at home on the highway as well as in city driving. And is built for comfort as well as handling.

Featuring a 4-stroke OHV V-TWIN with a 1200 - cubic centimeter displacement, it has a compression ration of 821. Its fade resistant brakes measure 11½" for the front disc and 10" in the rear. Designed for long hauls it carries a big 3.6 gallon teardrop shaped tank ... and holds four quarts of oil.

The front brake is a racing style. The bike boasts safety rocker switch, quick throttle control and heavy duty front fork assembly.

Thanks for looking and you can see more of my bikes on the group! : )

  1. That’s a beautiful looking bike, Cricket, the blue lacquer paint went on perfectly, and she looks great being photographed in the sunshine.

  2. GREAT job on that. Looks rike a real one. I had that kit way back, when I had my real '77 Super Glide. I had to have the High bars, loud pipes and belt drive. Would sit back on that thang, one hand on the throttle cigarette in the other, CRUISIN'. Good Lordy I miss that 'Ol girl. Never did finish the model though. Good work.

  3. That blue lacquer really looks nice, Cricket (@bikequeen). Sometimes it takes a few days off to build up momentum for your current bike.

  4. I wanted one of these kits back in the 90s and couldn’t get my hands on one. Really well done. Thanks for sharing.

  5. @bikequeen - Beautiful Blue Cricket. I love the 70s style stripes as well. So great!

  6. Fantastic looking Harley, Cricket... it's a real pity you can't ride it... because the tags are expired. 😉 Head down to the BMV and you should have that beauty on the street in no time! (Another georgous 1/6 build, what else can i say?)

  7. Excellent Harley, Cricket! Love the blue!

  8. Absolutely gorgeous!

  9. Absolutely beautiful, Cricket @bikequeen
The Pearl Blue looks wonderful, I would say that your airbrush skills are great.
    Well done.

  10. Beautiful work Cricket @bikequeen! 😃 I really like the outdoor pics! 👍

    • @garybrantley Thank you sir! I should have used the flash for the outdoor pics…would have come out better but I didnt see them until I had it all tore down and didnt feel like setting it up again 🙂

  11. Nicely done! great job on the paint.

  12. So realistic looking, Cricket @ bikequeen. You are indeed “THE Bike Queen”. Don’t let an airbrush intimidate you.
