Airfix 1/48 Avro Anson Mk.I

November 7, 2023 · in Aviation · · 30 · 254

This really is a kit of opposites.

The cockpit internals and the overall fit is beautiful but the fit of the nacelles leaves a little to be desired.

Nothing a spot of filler and plasticard can't fix but it was a surprise after the ease of building the rest.

The side glazing gave me a bit of a headache as there was a little bend in both but the fit of these may have been down to me if i'd misaligned something earlier in the build.

Primed with Mr. Finishing Surfacer Black 1500.
Painted with Colourcoats Interior Grey Green.
SMS Forest Green, Dark Earth and Insignia White.
Tamiya Flat Aluminium, Dark Iron, Gun Metal, Nato Black, Rubber Black, Clear Red and Clear Green.
Revell Fiery Red Enamel
Washed with Windsor & Newton Burnt Sienna in Lighter fluid.
Windsor & Newton Oils used for a dot filter.
Various stains with Abteilung 502 Smoke.
Aftermarket Used:
Quinta Cockpit Decal Set.
XtraDecal X48232 Avro Mk.I Collection Pt. 2

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,
Alistair

    Great red cross scheme.
No signs of the issues you had with the nacelles.

  6. Really nice looking aircraft. Great job Alistair! You'd never know there were any fit issues with the engine nacelles. 👍

  7. Further inspiration to haul mine out. This is really nice, Alistair!

  8. 🙂 ... Greetings ... 🙂 :.
Very sharp and clean build Alistair, it has been awhile since I saw one of those aircrafts.

  9. This one came out really well, Alistair (@alistairfgauld). I love the paint scheme with its little splash of bright colors on the nacelles, not to mention the bright red crosses. Well done.

  10. Looks great, Alistair, very neat work. It might look cool in a display with the new 1/48 Tamiya ambulance, just a thought.

  11. Well done, Alistair. So many interesting schemes for this plane.

  12. Great looking aircraft (@alistairfgauld).

  13. Excellent build! Love that red cross scheme.

  14. Well done, a great looking Anson!

  15. Very nice. I am building one now and have the same problem. I mis aligned something somewhere I think and now the whole model is mis aligned. Not a forgiving kit. I'll be very glad when mine is done.
I'm surprised because the other Airfix kids I've done were a breeze.
    You did great on yours.

    • Many thanks.
I think that those beautiful internal parts have to be very precisely placed or you get an issue later on.
But it is worth the effort even if you get it wrong.
