Matchbox 1/72 Beaufighter Mk X

November 14, 2023 · in Aviation · · 24 · 484

It's been a while since I've posted here; I did take a small hiatus from modeling and I've returned to it recently. I recently finished the Beaufighter. It was a fun build.

The kit is an early one with multi colored plastic parts. The first thing I did is fill in all the exaggerated panel lines with Perfect Plastic putty, primed it with Tamiya spray can primer. I repeated this process until they were gone. The fit is good, especially the clear parts. One thing I did is cut out the wingtip and leading edge lights. The leading edge lights were simply covered with cellophane tape.

I tried to make the best I could with it . Looking at the photos I took yesterday there are some things that I could have done better though. If you notice the top color is lightly streaked. All I did is run a new Q-Tip (ear bud) along the sides. My friend Tim Prosser, an expert modeler, told me that the Beau did not carry both rockets and torpedo. It's either one or the other. So I might have to remove one of them. Lately I have to use two kits because I end up loosing parts. Old age I suppose. The model is painted with Testors Acryl gunship gray and Tamiya Sky. The kit decals worked perfectly. My photo setup is very simple and anyone can do it.

You are too lucky to have an original Matchbox Beaufighter, I love so much the colored plastic, the box, well, everything! I wouldn't bother removing the torpedo or the rockets, I would leave everything on! Just like old times! great photo studio setup: simple and effective!
