Curtiss P-40E Kittyhawk Mk1. 75 Squadron RAAF.

January 21, 2024 · in Aviation · · 33 · 330

I would like to present my Kittyhawk Mk1

. "Schuftie" was a 75 Squadron aircraft flown out of Port Moresby, New Guinea.

The aircraft was flown by Fl.Lt Les Jackson from March through to early May 1942 until 75 Squadron was withdrawn to re-equip.

I used Aussie Decals for the markings.

The Hasegawa P-40 is a beautiful kit. I have built a number of them. They are well detailed kits without being overwhelmed with parts.

PS "Schuftie" is an Arabic word meaning, " to have a closer look"

  1. Superb job, Michael!

  2. Great job on this beauty Michael, I really must have a Kittyhawk in my collection.

  3. Great result on this Kittyhawk, Michael @michaelwoodgate

  4. @michaelwoodgate - you're so right about the quality of this kit, all it takes is a modeler willing to take care in assembly, to diminish the amount of filler needed for the "plug in" parts. The result of doing that is what you have here, a really excellent model. I particularly like your paintwork.

    • Thanks Tom. For your very kind remarks about my Kittyhawk. I just love all the Hasegawa 1/32nd sale kits. Even the old ones, they are still good in my opinion. They are very enjoyable to build. Enough detail without being intimidating like the Tamiya 1/32nd kits.

  5. Good looking Kittyhawk.

  6. Excellent P-40, Michael.

  7. Wow, she's a looker. Beautifully built and painted, and the pilot really adds to it.

    • Thankyou Bill for your very nice comments. The pilot figures included in the Hasegawa kits are terrific. I have included them in most of my builds. As you say. The pilot really adds to it.

  8. Magnificent work on display here. It really looks amazing. Iā€™m a huge fan of the P-40 and especially when it is in this scale. My very first model was the ancient 1/32 scale Revell P-40E which had the Flying Tigers box art on it. I was 8 years old at the time, and it was a fairly new model at the time.

Looking at your model reminds me of that time.

Thanks for sharing this with us. It truly is something special. Iā€™m going to be clicking on several of the various like buttons.

    Well done.

    • Thankyou Louis for your very kind comments. I too remember the old 1/32 Revell kits as a youngster of about 10 or 11. I built the Spitfire Mk1. My first large scale model. My grandma gave it to me as a Christmas present. I was then hooked on 1/32nd scale. Following the Spitfire, I built the Wildcat, Zero, Me109. I don't know how I afforded them. I guess model kits were much cheaper back in the 60's.

  9. Definitely an excellent entry. And we can never have enough P-40s. The colors look correct to me. Terrific paint work.

    • Thankyou Carl. I really try to get the colours correct. I do lots of research to get it right. I really like Tamiya paints and I mix them to the matching FS numbers where possible.

  10. A beautifully painted and decaled P-40. @michaelwoodgate

  11. Another excellent build. The P-40 is one of my favorite WWII fighter aircraft, and I especially like the Pacific schemes - this one is well done!

  12. I'm really happy you like my Kittyhawk.

  13. What a beautiful P-40!
Excellent paint job and convincing subtle weathering. Liked.

  14. Great build Michael, and the explanation of "schuftie" there was I thinking it was a cockney saying.
"Cor blimey guvnor just going for a schuftie down the old dog and duck".
Love a good P-40 and you have nailed it šŸ‘

  15. Nice work Michael (@michaelwoodgate). Love the pilot's mustache. Very "Tally Ho Chaps". Well done šŸ™‚

  16. Well done, it looks good with your Buffalo. Yup, Hasegawa makes great P-40s.

  17. Awesome work on a great looking P-40!
