Wilde Sau Wurgers: Eduard 1/48 Fw 190A-6 and 8
The innovative development of the first German airborne radar on is a source for modelers to demonstrate different FuG antennae arrays.
I used two Eduard A-8 kits to represent the initial and final Neptun radar antenna arrays on the Wurgers. The initial version is based on an A-8 kit converted to Fw 190A-6. The airframe is essentially similar except for the location of the pitot tube, access panels machine guns and respective cover. The unique parts to the version are found on the general Eduard kit sprues. Deletion of the panels is required for the A-6 as well as the change in the shape of the ventral oval panel. The model represents the mount of Herman Graf of II.JG300.
This was an opportunity to examine the development of Eduard's 190A molds. The initial edition shown here by the A-8 carrying Yagi antennae is a complex build comprising of engine and machine guns cover opening options. Unfortunately, the revealed engine and machine guns bay are sketchy and require much additional detailing to give a descent representation of the internal components of the Wurger. Moreover, the parts are very fiddly, and one is left with a model that cannot fulfill its potential.
The Fw 190A-6 version is a revised mold by Eduard. Here, covers were molded as integral parts of the airframe. The engine and machine guns were removed, and the surface texture received additional rivet detailing. The model is much easier to build, and the parts fit perfectly. It is one of Eduard's finest molds. However, the rivet detailing is perfused and does not give quite an accurate representation of the Wurger's surface texture.
Very nice on both, Rafi.
Thank you Gary.
Excellent job on both Wurgers, Rafi!
They look extremely realistic!
Thanks for the kits' overview.
Thank you Spiros!
Amazing result on both 190's, Rafi @blackmopane
Especially the close-up picture shows the quality of your builds.
How was the red swirl done on the spinner of the black 1, did you paint that manually?
Thank you John.
As far as I know there is no decal sheet that describes Graf's aircraft. The swirl was painted manually.
Excellent pair of Wurger Birds.
Thank you Chas!
Nice work on these. The new kit really is superb.
Thank you Tom.
Awesome work on both builds, Rafi. @blackmopane
Thank you John!
They both turned out great, Rafi.
Thank you John.
Very cool
Thank you George.
Great build Rafi, I love building all the German night fighters, I have done a number of twin engine, but none of the single engine ones. You have two really nice looking builds! Well done!
Thank you Walt.
German night fighters are fascination builds and take a big part of my collection.
Very nice builds - they look great!
Thank you Greg!
Really great job! I am about to start the Eduard A-7 and D-9. This is great inspiration! @blackmopane
Thank you Keith.
