F-8X Super Crusader,

July 7, 2024 · in Aviation · · 11 · 281

Here's another Whatiffer. Eliminating the bridle catapult set up by adopting the nose gear hook up from the A-7, including the main landing gear also installing a 20mm vulcan, instead of those prone to jam singles, an engine change [perhaps the J-79] upgraded radar, some ECM bumps and for non naval customers eliminate the folding wing hard ware.

A might have been export competitor for the F-104.

The kit is the /minicraft. 1/72, the landing gear comes from an A-7 kit.

If you want see how the Crusader was hooked up to the catapult watch Flight Deck, USS FDR, THE 1960's. it looked pretty hazardous. You can find it on Youtube.

There’s a jet on display at the

Don Garlit’s Museum of Drag Racing in nearby Belleview FL.

I usually go there when they have a Mopar car show.

This older gentleman wearing the white T shirt is Don Garlits himself.

    Nice work brother.

  7. Great job, on your F-8, Robert. Some of your whatiffers should be havebeeners! Great ideas the Crusader was a good aircraft and your improvements would have made it a viable option for a while longer.
