Combat effectiveness improvements

Over the Course of its long service Life, the Mirage Fleet has been continually modified to increase its combat effectiveness, with the aircraft undergoing electronic and Aerodynamik improvements. The most striking change to the aircraft exterior was the Addition of side slats (Canards) between 1988 and 1992. They improved maneuverability at lower speeds. The new Ejektion seat and chaff-and-flare dispenser were also installed. At the same time, the S Fleet received two different shades of gray in the Camouflage paint already used on the two-seaters.

The end

In 1998, it was decided to take the remaining 29 Mirage III S out of service at the End of 1999. The FA-18 replaces the Mirage III S. At the end of 1997, the first Squadron was deployed operationally. A new Generation of interceptors is now operational, an aircraft that can see the enemy at a distance of 100 km and Attack several Targets at a distance of 30 km, and in Fact several Targets at the same time. The Mirage had a visibility of 30 km and an operational distance of 12 km.

A quantum leap forward.

The Era of the Mirage III RS has definitely come to an end. On December 31, 2003, the remaining 16 Reconnaissance aircraft were taken out of service. This marks the end of the 38-year History of the Mirage III RS in the Swiss Air Force. Mirage in the Farewell livery of Black and White.
