1/72 ‘Micro Stinger’ Bf-108B, I./ZG 1, Heller Kit 077
When I found Owl Decal sheet OWLDS72099 featuring a Bf-108 with I. Gruppe of the Zerstörergeschwader 1, I figured I had to build a ‘Micro Stinger ‘ to display next to my ‘Little Stinger' Bf-109.
This Heller kit was first molded in the 1960's, my specific kit was issued in 1976. It has been released multiple times through the years and as recent as 2020 (all according to Scalemates). The only thing I added to the build were the seatbelts and the Owl Decals.
Painted alongside the previous He 100 build, I used Model Master RLM65 and Mr. Hobby Acqueous RLM70 and RLM 71 for the Splinter Camouflage. First time using Owl Decals and they worked very well – very thin and nicely trimmed white nice opaque whites.
Funny thing was with the BF 108, I never clued in what ‘Taifun' meant until I checked Google Translate and found that it meant ‘Typhoon' – go figure 🙂
Thanks for viewing.
This oldie is build beautifully, George @georgeswork
The splinter camouflage looks great.
Thanks John (@johnb), hopefully I’ll have the third splinter camo build done soon.
Lovely build, George @georgeswork!
Thank you Felix (@fxrob)
Well done, George!
Thank you Gary (@gwskat)
Another great looking model, George!
Thank you Jay (@ssgt)
Great work George (@georgeswork). I tried to build this kit once and almost gave up in frustration. It is a real testament that you not only finished it, but also made it look so good. Well done.
Thank you George (@gblair), I almost had to sand off half the raised panel lines.
Great little 108! Beautiful build. I always thought that the wasp or bee was a cool unit insignia.
Thanks Clint (@curtisshawk), I agree. Thinking about a ME 110 or 410 for a build.
Well done, George. I like the look of that paintwork a lot.
Thanks John (@j-healy), I’m liking my Tamiya airbrush!
Great looking "Taifun" George@georgeswork, the stinger makes this a very sharp looking build.
Thanks Bob (@v1pro), ‘stinger’ – ‘sharp’ , I like your wording.
Nicely done George.
Thanks Allan (@kalamazoo), I’m glad I had no rigging to do.
George, that is a great job on the Heller kit. It inspires me to get out the Hurricane IIc in my stash for another go. I think the kits hold up well after all this time. Yours is certainly finished beautifully.
Thanks Russell (@russjurco),
it would be awesome to see your Hurricane completed.
Another great little build! That Wasp almost looks incongruous on what is such a "civilian" looking airplane, but a great scheme for the "Typhoon!"
Thanks Greg (@gkittinger),
I think it looks like a wannabe tough guy - sorta like the plane got a 'wasp' tattoo.
Great! Do You remember Bf108 in „The Longest Day” movie?
Thanks Lis (@lis),
Ah yes, they were supposed to be Fw190s but they had to settle for Bf-108s
Classic movie!
