Shiden Kai Kawanishi N1K – A Weathered Warrior in 1/24 Scale
This article is part of a series:
Here's my latest build of the Ban Dai 1/24 Shiden Kai, Kawanishi N1K from a 199X kit. Inspired by the Inca 2.0 concept for the painting, I wanted to try something different from the usual chipped paint often seen on late WWII Japanese fighter planes.
Instead, I focused on creating an uneven, wrinkled metal surface to highlight the aircraft's heavy use. The high speed, quick turns, and hard landings these planes endured often twisted the fuselage and wings, causing the panels to distort over time. This texture mimics the appearance of many Japanese WWII planes, which often showed signs of stress due to their lighter, thinner aluminum skins designed for extended flight ranges.
Using an airbrush, I applied acrylic paint to achieve this weathered, textured effect, bringing out the look of a battle-worn veteran of the skies.
I've put together a photo slideshow that showcases the production process of this model build. The narration is in Mandarin, with English subtitles for easy understanding.

You explained it nicely in the video, thanks for sharing.
Interesting finish...Well done, Alex
Nicely done. This one has a different feel from your other "inca" builds.
