CMK 1/72 Sukhoi Su-5
This is my first resin kit build that was built a little over 3 years ago. The kit is an old one from the 70's probably one of the early releases from CMK (Czech Master's Kits). It has fine recessed panel lines, decent details in the cockpit and a crystal clear vacuform canopy.
A pretty easy build with not too many parts to deal with. They still needed to be cleaned (filed/sanded) to fit correctly but the resin in this kit was easy to remove the material. I can't say the same about my second resin kit build which was very hard and solid like a rock. This was not a perfect build but I am happy with it.
Tamiya acrylic paint was brushed on the upper surface while I used Vallejo acrylic paint for the bottom. The Vallejo paint brushed on very nicely while the Tamiya paint was good. The decals used were from a spare box, a little out of register but good enough from what I wanted from this build.
This is a weird plane with its dual powerplants systems. It consists of a V-12-cylinder liquid-cooled engine which delivered 1,650hp for take-off and it also has a unique jet engine with a compressor that is geared driven from the V-12 engine through a shaft. The compressed air will go through 7 fuel nozzles where it receives fuel and ignition occurs. From there the exhaust gas goes right through the tail pipe. This jet engine does not have a turbine section, the reason why the compressor is driven by the V-12 engine. This jet engine provided 300 kg/661 lb of thrust for up to 10 min at high altitude. This was a fast plane, with its combined powerplants it was capable of speeds up to 789 kph/490 mph.
Looks a bit funny but nice to have with my collection.
What a beautiful little model, Bob!
Well done!
Thank you Spiros @fiveten! I added this short to show its size is very similar to the other Soviet fighters from WWII. and a shot next to a He-162. A small plane it is.

A unique aircraft indeed, Bob @v1pro
Very nice build of this resin kit. To me resin looks so difficult to work with, respect to all modellers who can build it up this nicely as yours.
Thank you John @johnb! This resin kit was pretty easy but my second which was a Yak-1 was more difficult, even though it had a lower parts count. If a resin kit is made right for the modeler to build, then they are pretty easy to put together. But I have a few that are downright ridiculous, either loaded with flash (almost looking like it came from lava) or terribly warped. And they are expensive too but I do have some really nice ones waiting to get built!
Very nice! You stumped me with a subject I was totally unfamiliar with. It looks great among the others in your collection.
Thank you Greg @gkittinger! This was a lucky find when I picked this kit up. In our club, we had a lot of vacu-form kits to take for free. And when I got there, I found this resin kit in the bottom of the box. I took it home surprised that it was a complete untouched kit.
That is a unique airplane , Bob @v1pro
I’ve never heard of it. You’ve gotten a nice collection of little known early Soviet jets. Looks like you did a nice job building this resin model! You do good work.
Thank you Jay @ssgt! I knew nothing about this aircraft until after I picked up this kit. I am enjoying building up my collection of the early Soviet jets. Hopefully next year I can have the VP Canada vacu-form Su-9 built. I'll be building up my collection on early jets for the U.S., Great Britain, Japan and Germany.

Very cool, one we don't see every day! Nice build.
Thank you Chas @chasbunch. This is a neat model to have in my collection.
Nicely done Bob, the group also.
Thank you Allan @kalamazoo!
Nice build but it can fly in real? 😀
Thank you capt. R (@lis)! To answer your question no, but the real one did fly. 😁
Congrats on your resin build, Bob.
Unique topic, indeed. Great looking collection.
Thank you George @georgework! Yes, this is a pretty unique build and it compliments my collection.
