Last one for the year,"what if" DO-335 JG-300 Defense of the Reich

December 22, 2024 · in Uncategorized · 10 · 128

This is an original issue of the venerable Monogram offering in 1/48 scale. Not as refined as the Tamiya, but builds nice. I decided to build it as if the 335 had gone into full production and been assigned to a squadron defending Germany against Allied bombers. I decided to paint it based on late war FW-190D and ME-109 camouflage. And for the Luftwaffe experts, yes the squadron badge is not from JG-300, but since the whole thing is a work of fiction I decided that as the war progressed and units were partially destroyed they were absorbed into other units, I liked the way the badge looked so I used it! One thing I noticed in the pictures and have since corrected is the hole in one of the lower stabs that is for a prop to keep it from being a tail sitter! Ah well...

  1. Love it, this was out before the Tam kit was first issued, unusual subject and though I have never built one, I remember how big it was when I saw one of these showing up at a show way back when at IPMS Spacepark in Torrance. I like your concept and makes sense if it did go into production in limited numbers, this paired with 262 would've been a handful but not enough to affect the eventual outcome, just more casualties for both sides. Seems like lately at least for me I have at least one Monogram kit going. Merry Christmas, my fellow sailor, God Bless.
