Completions for 2024, Small but all Things Considered, Satisfactory

January 9, 2025 · in Aviation · · 12 · 248

I know a week into the new year is a little late to be posting the year in review, I was delayed a bit. My output for the year was only three kits, two built out of the box and one kind a super effort on my part.

The first kit completed was the Pegasus Rocket in 1/48th scale. This was a snap tight kit that took many times longer to paint than to build, but it was a fun entertaining diversion.

The second kit completed was really a labor of love on my part, I took the Monogram 1/48th B-24D, scribed, riveted, added resin wheel wells, nacelles, pilots seats, my own printed parts for interior and pitot tubes. I had my own decals printed by MicroScale and I am very happy with the results. It consumed many building hours on my part but I think they were all worth it.

The last kit was the Airfix 1/48th . I riveted this kit but otherwise built it out of the box and have to say it is a really nice kit and ranks up their with the best in overall fit.

While I only completed three this year, I am thankful for the ability to even complete those and will be delighted to be able to complete that many this year. Starting the weekend before New Years I noticed a shadow in the bottom of my left eye, by New Years day I lost nearly half my vision in my left eye. A visit to an ophthalmalogist on the day after and a referrel to retinal specialist on Friday, by Friday afternoon I was in the operating room for emergency surgery to reattach my retinal. Hopefully everything works out. Right now I am typing with one eye, having to stand and keep my face down so that everything stays where it is supposed to. Events like that make you appreciate what you have.

  1. Happy New Year, Walt @luftwaffe-birdman
It is never too late to post your models, especially not if they look like this.
The number of models is not what counts, it is about the fun you had with them.

  2. It’s the quality and enjoyment that count, Walt, not the quantity. I hope your detached retina treatment is successful and you are able to enjoy 2025, happy modelling.

  3. Yet another fantastic year, Walt!
Congratulations on your builds, they are absolutely marvelous!
Wishing you a Happy, Prosperous 2025!

  4. They are all awesome builds! My favorite is your B-24, just amazing. Have a great 2025. 👍

  5. Walt. Well done on your builds. They are all stellar examples of your work.
Good luck with your vision and you can get back to the bench for more builds in 2025.

  6. Wow, a detached retina! Did the docs have any idea what caused that to happen? All your builds are great, but the B-24 is really spectacular. And of course it harkens back to the Revell 1/72 kit from 1964.

    • The doctors kept asking me if I had any blows to the head or eye recently, Russ @russjurco. I told them my wife hasn't hit me in years! (J/K). In my case it just may be my age that caused it , there was no real participating event to tie it too.

  7. All quality builds! And prayers, Walt, for a fast and effective recovery from the surgery!

  8. Excelent work on all 3

  9. Quality beats quantity every time.

  10. Really nice catalog of models, Walt (@luftwaffe-birdman). When I was a teenager I could build a kit in a weekend, but now I usually spend a month or more on a kit. I'm with Tom - quality is always preferable to quantity.

  11. Nice work, Walt... all of these turned out well. I sincerely hope your vision improves, and you get back to full health soon.
