Eduard Fw190A8/R2

April 7, 2025 · in Aviation · · 13 · 209

Hey folks,
So this is my 'Weekend Edition' 1:48 Focke-Wulf with just generic seatbelts added. Painted with Mr Color lacquers for the camo and decals for a 5/JG300 machine from the spares box. Weathering/stains/leaks are all Windsor & Newton oils.

Not too much to say about the kit that hasn't been said here & elsewhere over the years. My first time building this kit and enjoyed it so much I've already added an A4 to my basket at my favourite on-line model shop !

As always, C C & Q's welcome, cheers from New Zealand.

I'm going to echo what has been stated above by our friends. You have done a magnificent job with your 190. It looks fantastic.

I have heard nothing but good about these newer Eduard radial engine 190's. So I picked up some of them too...

Well done, and I made sure to click on several of the various "like" buttons.

  5. Nice work, Ian. How much do you thin Mr. Color and at what pressure do you spray it when mottling a plane like this? Which thinner do you use? I’ve been using Mr. Color with their Levelling Thinner quite often lately but can’t get it to flow as fine and smooth as my favorite, Xtracolor enamels.

    • Hey John...
So Mr Color lacquer to thinner ratio is around 30/70 - because the unthinned paint has the consistency of peanut butter. Pressure is around 12psi (my gauge is broken so I guesstimate) .

Funny you mention Xtracolor enamels, I still have a couple of hundred of them and only recently opened a virgin tin of Light Compass Grey that I've had since the early 1990's thinned and sprayed perfectly AND the only paint that matches Mr Color lacquers for resilience/ruggedness IMO.

      • Thanks, Ian. Xtracolor and Humbrol both last forever. I too have 35 year old Xtracolor that’s still fine. I also have a few tins of Humbrol Authentics that I know I purchased around 1976-78 and they’re like new.

  6. Great looking plane. I too have built this and was happy with my result.

  7. Nice work, Ian. The paint and finish look great.

  8. Beautiful work, you really did a good job with the surface.

  9. Thanks everyone for the comments, very much appreciated.
