Grumman Hellcat F6F-5N, Hasegawa 1/48
Classic model from Hasegawa. Have tried to use an old resin kit for the cockpit but it was a terrific fail π I finally used the original part from the kit.
I used for the first time paint from MIG Ammo. I had some issue with the Navy Blue color from their US NAVY WWII Air set. The color was much too dark, almost black. So I adjusted the ton with a thinned Tamiya white to get finally a more realistic color (I guess). The other problem I got with MIG paints was the long long long drying time compare to Tamiya or AK colors.
I also used the medium chipping liquide from MIG to wear the leading edge of the wings. I got an interesting effect but I adjusted with some oil paints to get something a bit more natural.
The bought this kit more than 10 years ago and the decals became a bit brittle. I managed it with a lot of patience and with a lot of softener π
Absolutely STUNNING. Looks very realistic! Well done!
I share Morne's view: Stunning work on the weathering there, you'd almost think it's 1:32 Scale. Kudos!
Nice looking Cat Alex. Well done.
Very nice
Really convincing - you pack a lot of scale into a small size. Inspiring stuff.
Alex,
I like what you've done with the leading edge of the wing. The wear and tear of blue paint has exposed the primer. Making a mono-colored dark blue aircraft look interesting is a hard thing to do. Even finding that color on the shelf ...can be a hard thing to do and the interpretation of blue can be subjective. You've managed to pull it off and make the kit look like a Cat. Not some flat colored life less Toy for a kid to play with.
Two thumbs up.
Very cool, it reminds me I still have one F-3 from Hasegawa in the stash.
One well done 'Cat!
Very nice build. Knowing that kit has some shortcomings, this Cat turned out great.

Nice eye catcher Alex, very good rendition of a HELLCAT. Very convincing work on the weathering and nice work on the leading edges. The photography is very well done and really compliments it. Surely a work to be proud of.
Superb build Alex! Looks fantastic.
Many thanks for all your encouraging comments, much appreciated.
A nice one will come soon and will post this weekend a article about an excellent product I found in the UK!
