Trumpeter 1/48 Seafang
This is the definition of relaxed build. Low part count, fantastic fit, adequate detail.
The only issue worth mentioning is the ill fitting of the canopy in the open position. Basically it's as if it was designed to remain closed. It needs trimming and clever positioning if one wants to display it open, and still I'm not too happy with the result.
My only improvements were p.e. seat belts, holow barrels and exhaust, and a blanking plastic in the coolers.
I decided to paint the strips rather than use the decals and I think it was a good call as the decals are somewhat fragile due to their minuscule thickness.
Overall, a very enjoyable build!
Nice work!
Given that the cockpit of this kit is fantastical (as in, it's a fantasy of reality, not a representation of reality), I decided to keep the cockpit closed and avoid questions on mine. I wonder if the airplane would really still have been used as late as 1956 - but that's what happened on Earth II. 🙂
Thanks Tom, I enjoyed building this kit and at the end of the day that's what counts for me. I know the cockpit is inaccurate, as in, the output of some designer's imagination :-), but I like it, my kids say they love it, so that's enough to make me happy! Isn't that one of the purposes of the hobby?
Thanks again, and keep up the good work for the community!
Nice presentation, sir...good all-around work on this for sure.
Thanks!
Love the paint and subtle weathering on this - looks just right. Well done! Don't see many of these built (maybe the first I've seen...).
Well thanks. It was weathered heavier but the varnishes took most if away. Still it turned out OK.
Nicely done, looks great!
Thank you Robert
🙂 … Greetings … 🙂 :
Nice work on this build George, the weathering has been done in a very convincing manner.
Thanks!
Sleek design, Suez stripes and contra-rotating props, what's not to like! I really like the FAA colors of this era and you did a fine job putting them on display. I still have to get me this kit (and the Wyvern). I would probably paint the stripes as well. I used to be afraid of them until I got an airbrush!
That's a neat masking job! The kit is a no-brainer, go for it!
Great looking bird. I did the Wyvern and like you I chose to paint the Suez stripes
Thanks George; yes, painting is much more realistic...
Nice work George, I built this kit as well, yours is way better by the way , seeing as the Suez scheme is fictional I went for the other scheme, purely in the cause of realism you understand, it just happens to be an easier option ahem hem...
Well done.
N.
Hi Neil, I just thought the stripes make the whole plane look more interesting. I'm sure yours is great too.
