EDUARD 1:72 F6F-3 Hellcat, VF-16, USS LEXINGTON CV-16, late 1943

October 24, 2019 · in Uncategorized · · 11 · 2.9K

This build brought back memories of my childhood on the '50s, early '60s building F6Fs. Though the surface detail is great, typical , i felt the need to replace many smaller detail parts with the following.

Brassin resin P&W resin engine (with copper wire ignition wires)

QuickBoost Mk.VIII gunsight, main gear doors and cowling flaps.

BarracudaCast main wheels

Master Models brass gun barrels

miscellaneous Part P.E. used

Prop was replaced with one from a -1

all formation lights are scratch built, brake lines added to main gear legs, uschi super fine aerial wires.

paint is custom mixed Tamiya Acrylics over HGW wet Transfer rivet set #721011. the paint is polished with micro mesh 12,000 grade clothes, exposing the rivets in wear areas

  4. That is just stunning!

  5. Wonderful work especially in that scale. Bravo.

  6. That's lovely Roger. I really like the subtle rows of bare-metal rivets.

  7. Roger, your a fantastic practitioner of studying light with paint. With all of the contrasts in blues and whites the fading in specific area's. The contrasts in dark and light are very subtle but, reflect what a lot of us see in photographs. I might add that your exhaust streaks are very sophisticated and you have taken the time to study the air flow patterns over the cowling and fuselage. Exhaust stains are not one color but a mixture of blacks, grays and browns. The canopy ...the eyes of your subject is seated properly and smartly with some very sharp painting with paint that matches the fuselage, Even the prop has a lighter or more gray color to it with some subtle painting of the hub. Accented with a wash. The tires don't look like they where painted out of a bottle of black. Now add that the model is in 1/72nd demands that the viewer take the time to look at your work.

Two thumbs up. You have my vote for " Model of the Month" but, I am prejudiced and wouldn't make a good judge. I do know what I like.

    • Stephen, all i can say is your support is always sincerely appreciated. i paint what i see, it's nice to know someone appreciates the subtly of my work . Thank you Stephen.
