Counter Insurgency...1/48 North American F-51D Mustang, Fuerza Aerea Guatemalteca
Built in 2016.
Hasegawa kit, Aztec decals, Mk.82 bombs from a Hasegawa weapon set, Gunze and Tamiya acrylics used.
The F*G used Mustangs for anti-guerilla fighting in the 60ies and early 70ies before the a/c were succeeded by the A-37 Dragonfly.
Fantastic work.
Very colorful and attractive scheme, executed perfectly.
Very cool! I love the Central/South American aircraft and schemes (I have a long-term project going on that subject...). Great work on this.
Nice work as usual Reinhard.
One thing not well-known (which is why you didn't know it) that might be useful information for others thinking of doing South American P-51s: the cockpit gas tanks were removed in the US and the radios and battery relocated, and a "jump seat" was installed in back (like modern warbirds). I saw several of these that came back from El Salvador and Guatemala in the 1970s (many restored as warbirds later) and they were a collection of sad sacks, let me tell you.
What a nice bird! And unique scheme too!
Thks!
What a great version of the P-51!
Interesting scheme, nicely done ! The Mustang is timeless.
Now that's unusual, great job!
sweet work
Great camo scheme!
