Tamiya A6M2b type 21

August 7, 2020 · in Uncategorized · · 17 · 2.2K

one of my favorite aircraft so it was surprising to me that i had not built a A6M2 Zero-Sen in my favorite scale (1:72 of course).

the kit build was augmented with the following bits.

P.E. set, brass tubing for the cannon barrels and pitot tube, lead wire for the ignition wires, brake lines and cockpit detail, and a QuickBoost gun sight.

Paint is a custom mix of paints from a formula found in Nick Millman's PDF "painting the early Zero-Sen" which can be found here

http://www.aviationofjapan.com/2011/10/painting-early-zero-sen-pdf-e-guide.html

decals are from MYK Design. they are of the "wet Transfer" type and performed flawlessly.

markings are for an a/c flown on Dec., 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor, Lt. Masao Sato, off the Carrier Zuikaku

  1. NO WAY THAT'S 1/72! Looks great, Roger.

  2. Really? 1/72? Amazing build!

  3. Beautiful. Looks like 1/48. Nice color too

  4. My goodness this looks magnificent ! It is hard to believe this is a 1/72 scale model. I have a hard time putting these kinds of details into a 1/48 scale kit... Well done my friend. I pressed the liked button too.

Nick Millman is a wonderful fellow. We owe a LOT to his research...

  5. So pretty, great build and paint.

  6. Hi Roger!
This is an excellent Zero that fools the scale. You' ve put all those fantastic details together.
    Beautiful painting and weathering.
    Congratulations!

  7. A fantastic build, Roger.
Everything on this Zero looks great.

  8. That is a real little gem. The paint and detail work are outstanding.

  9. Very nice work, it’s a little gem

  10. That's some beautiful work Roger, especially in that scale. Well done.

  11. That monochrome look really brings out the beauty and classic lines of the Zero. Stunning job. Whats comming next?

  12. The first thing to jump out at me was the subtle use of varying shades of the hemp color. Various panels, ailerons, sections of the fuselage ,rudder and the elevators have these slight variations. Which kind of acts like the dot method of painting with varying colors that are used to make the eye move about the model when viewing. Which creates interest in the details of the kit. Next we see some subtle weathering that is not over stated and with in reason for this scale. Followed by some forced perspective photos and cropping which really shows a intimate view of another Roger Fabrocini master piece.

Roger you have my vote for Model of the Month. Some strong modeling here.

    Two thumbs up.

  13. Classic plane, favourite scale, great build.

  14. Beautiful Zero. A real winner!

This model just looks great in any angle, the coloring and the extra details really stand out and makes this model stand out.
Your work and dedication on the cockpit is very convincing and very well done.
Very nice work Roger ... more so in that scale.
