Tamiya 1:48 Scale, P-38G, "Lightning"

November 24, 2020 · in Aviation · · 11 · 1.7K

Just a little more weathering and I'll call her finished.

Probably the best engineered model kit of all time...my opinion, but if you've built one or are building one, then I think you know what I am talking about. I will not go into detail about the kit, except to say this: This is NOT a typical "Shake and Bake". It is involved, but the way she is engineered is phenomenal, and the build will be an amazing experience.

Paint is Tamiya, decals are Cutting Edge, belts are Eduard steel, weapons are Quick Boost and weathering was done using thinned oils and pastel chalks.

P-38G, #11, "Tommie's Lucky Penny", 48th FS, 14th FG, Lt. Sidney W. Weatherford North Africa, August, 1943.

  1. An excellent P-38, Frederick!

  2. You're so right about this kit, Freddie. I'm about to do a third one, using some Eduard aftermarket (talk about "carrying coals to Newcastle"!).

Really nice work here (as usual) and a big "Liked."

  3. I must be the only person on the planet that doesn't have one of these in the stash but I think that will change after seeing your build and the others that have been posted recently,

  4. Absolutely great, Frederick.
My next one will be this Tamiya kit and looking at yours I'm eager to start with it.

  5. Well-done on the build. Paint-work very special. All good.

  6. Everyone of these Tamiya P-38's look great when done, and yours is no exception Frederick. The question is do I get one now or wait for the J model. Really did a nice finish on this one.

  7. Bravo, bravo!
You convinced me: my next work will be this kit ?

  8. Very nice Lightning! Well done.

  9. Love your streaking. Very nice effect. Gotta get to mine (2) got an "H" also.
    Happy Bird day.

  10. Agree heartily with Koppos and others. And, I am another one on the planet who does not have one of these in the stash- However, your build is tempting me to rectify that situation. Lovely devil!
