Classic Airfix Typhoon (1959) Tweaked Just a bit

July 22, 2021 · in Aviation · · 15 · 2K

On this kit I used a replacement Falcon vacu-form canopy, a prop and wheels from the Academy kit. Paint by Tamiya. Even thought it is over 60 years old it does scale well on a Bentley plan. This was a simple and fun build.

  1. Nice looking little Tiffie! Well done.

    • Thanks Greg. On this one I wanted to make the neatest paint scheme I could. On the aerial I drilled a tiny hole for the thin wire and inserted it until it hit bottom Then I simply trimmed it.

  2. Nice work, David. I built a couple of those long ago. Yours looks much better then mine did!

    • Thanks John! I never did build this one when I was a kid. I don't think I ever saw it. The closest thing would be the Revell Tempest, but I've yet to build that one too.

  3. Very nice Typhoon, David.
You did a perfect job on this oldie.
    The vac canopy is perfect.
Still want to build one of my own because this is such a nice aircraft.

  4. Thank you John! Go for it. It's so simple to build.

  5. Well, now I know where Revell got that prop on their 1/32 kit!

Thanks for the memory and proof we really are in a golden age of modeling nowadays.

  6. Looks great, years ago I built this kit twice. On my last build I pretty much did the same upgrades too. One day I will post it.

  7. Another classic put together, this time with a few more modern "replacements".
    Looks amazing, David!
