Sword 1/72 Supermarine Spitfire PR Mk.IV – AA810 – Sandy’s Spitfire.
As I couldn't sleep this morning I thought I'd stick this up. It needs a few finishing touches but is ostensibly done.
This beautiful kit was brought to my attention by a friend and is a limited edition sold by Spitfire AA810 more here.

I am in no way involved or affiliated with this charity I just thought it was a worthwhile one.
Primed with UMP Grey,
Painted with ColourCoats Interior Grey Green, PRU Blue, Extreme Metals Aluminium and Tamiya Rubber Black.
Finished with Windsor and Newton Satin Varnish.
It was an OOB build apart from some Kitsworld seatbelts.
As you can see not only was Sandy one of the incredible PRU Pilots but was also one of the Fifty murdered by the Gestapo after the Great Escape.
To me this makes this an important kit to remember these brave people.
A fun kit to build with no major issues.
Thanks for looking,
Cheers,
Alistair
This is a nice PRU Spitfire, Alistair!
Nice to hear that the Sword kit builds well.
A great tribute to Sandy.
Thanks Spiros,
It builds really well just a smear of filler here and there.
Cheers,
Alistair
@alistairfgauld Fantastic Spitfire! Few days ago I read about High Altitude Spitfires, and painting shemes. Did you used aftermarket decals? Did you cut of short wing tips and fit oval wing tips?
Hi there,
Thanks so much.
The decals were the kit ones and the wings came like that.
The Pr Mk.IV was based on the Mk.1 Spitfire.
Cheers,
Alistair
@alistairfgauld I found in this site, that this kit is possible tu buy and support restauration of this plane. That kit is still in stock?
The kit is available here

Hope that helps
Cheers
Alistair
@alistairfgauld thank you! I will try to purchase that kit.
Alistair, this is a great Spit you've done. Plus, it's part of a really great project to recognize some REAL heroes who never got much ... if any ... recognition.
Well done, Sir!
@alistairfgauld
Thanks very much.
You're right the story is the much more important thing.
We must never forget what these people did for us.
Cheers,
Alistair
Very nice - looks great in the PRU scheme.
Thanks Greg
Nicely done, yes the PRU scheme looks great on this Spitfire.
Thanks so much.
Beautiful build, Alistair.
Scheme is indeed very nice.
I saw a real one with this scheme in Duxford, 2019, really beautiful.
Thanks very much for your kind words.
It is a beautiful colour.
Cheers,
Alistair
Very nicely done, Alistair (@alistairfgauld). 1/72 Spits are really small, so your attention to detail on this build is awesome.
Thanks very much.
1/72 is my preferred scale as I grew up with it and doesn't seem that small to me
Cheers,
Alistair
A great job, thanks for the history connection.
Many Thanks,
It's a story and a history that needs to be remembered
Nice work Alistair!
Thanks very much.
@alistairfgauld what kind of mask for painting canopy did you use?
Hi there,
The canopy bubbles come as separate pieces so I just masked the main canopy myself with Tamiya tape, burnished the edges in with a toothpick/ cocktail stick and trimmed with a new scalpel blade.
After all the painting and varnishing was done I glued the bubbles in with canopy glue.
Hope that helps,
Alistair
@alistairfgauld what about clear camera views?
I used masking fluid carefully applied with a toothpick.
Cheers,
Alistair
@alistairfgauld Thank you for your answer. What brand did you use?
Hi @Lls Sorry for the late reply.
I used Humbrol Maskol.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Alistair
@alistairfgauld Thank you!
