Hawker Tempest Mk.V Srs.2 by Eduard.

December 21, 2021 · in Aviation · · 24 · 1.5K

Having built Special Hobby's big 1/32 , I thought I'd build its little brother from in the more manageable size. This is the weekend edition & I've chosen the markings for W2oX from 80 Squadron, RAF, 2nd TAF, mainly because it was flown by Australian pilots & I had already done the big one as Clostermann's aircraft anyway. Weathering has been kept to a minimum & aftermarket parts limited to seatbelts & a scratch built filter in the air scoop. I still have the option of drop tanks & invasion stripes for the fuselage, but the only photo I can find of the original has the starboard wing cleverly obscuring any signs of stripes & even the marking diagram has a question mark for them. I can always add stripes, dirt & drop tanks later, if warranted, but for now I'll operate on the KISS principle. Eduard continue to excel at innovative ideas in kit design & I found this no exception. I look forward to their next masterpieces!

May I wish everyone the compliments of the season & a big thankyou for posting such inspiring models over the course of the year.

  5. You definitely got the most out of one of Eduard's best kits.

  6. Great camo lines, did you use masks or free hand?

    • Hi George, thanks. I cut manilla folders to the camo pattern for the wings & tailplane, but did the fuselage freehand, after pencilling in the pattern. Used small dabs of Blu Tack to secure the templates. Best of all I tried out my new airbrush with a .2 tip, & used highly thinned Tamiya paints all round. Not much touching up required. Next time I might try masks all round to try & get a little sharper demarcations.

  7. Great Tempest, Tony. Happy holidays to you too!

  11. Thumbs up, Tony! I use retired manila folders as well for stencils. They work great don't they?

  12. It looks great without the stripes, KISS, keep it simple, Santa.
