1/48 Eduard Spitfire XVI

April 7, 2022 · in Aviation · · 18 · 1.1K

I picked up this weekender kit off eBay for "a price I could not refuse" and it turned out to have an Space set inside for the instrument panel, and the Lifelike decal sheet that included this XVI, an airplane that was
"famous" for having been the subject of a Charles Brown photograph when it was based at the Central Flying School in 1948. Beyond that, nothing's really known about it.

This was a "post war" kit, with the upper wings having the bulges over the gear well for the larger tires, and metal-covered elevators.

The model was painted with Vallejo "Dull Aluminum" (which is only about "semi-matt") for High Speed Silver. After I did the decals, I finished off with a coat of clear "Satin."

I've said it before, I will say it again - there will always be room here for another Eduard Spitfire.

  5. Nice work. I love silver lacquer on a Spitfire.

  6. I "like" it TC! What a beauty! ?

  7. Really nice Tom! I never get tired of Spits. How did you like the Space set for the cockpit. I haven't tried them yet. Another note, I've used Vallejo "Dull Aluminum" several times and found it to be a lot shinier than their regular "Aluminum"...or maybe they got the labels mixed up.

    • Use the Space set per instructions with white glue and it looks very good.

If you put the Dull aluminum on in a very thin spray, really "mist it on" it comes out dull(er), but if you apply it any faster, it does indeed come out really shiny.

  8. great painting! Vallejo looks very good on plane.

  9. Another nice one Tom!

  10. beautiful Spit Tom!

  11. Another masterpiece, Tom @tcinla
Although I'm not a fan of those wing cutted Spitfires, yours does look amazing in silver.
    Great work.

  12. Speed silver is such an appropriate name, Tom. I recall you did a similar one decked in racing trim with speed silver. Eduard rules doesn’t it?

  13. Sweet looking machine

  14. Even with the stubby wings, the Spitfire is always a beauty!
    Excellent build, Tom.
