Special Hobby & Italeri 1/48 Viggen AJ, AJS 37 & SK 37E
The Viggen is a great aircraft. There are plenty of photographs including in flight that show intricate weathering patterns.
Special Hobby's ex Tarangus molds captures well the lines of the aircraft. It is a short run kit that requires much work to put it together. You may want to add plastic disks to the too thin main wheels. I used templates for the splinter camouflage of the AJ 37.
The AJS 37 is an Italeri kit (ex Escii.) It is very basic and has raised panel lines. I replaced many parts from spares left in the Special Hobby kit sprues. These included the canards, Vertical stabilizer, vents, pylons and an ejection seat. An auxiliary generator is an added feature in the SK 37E kit. The generator is extended for most of the time when the aircraft is on the ground. However the actual position of the generator does not conform with the panel lines, although the instructions show the correct position.
My hat's off to anyone who accomplishes that camo scheme. Great work!
Thank you Tom
The Viggen is a great looking plane and you’ve captured its lines perfectly.
Thank you George
Your usual fantastic jobs allover, Rafi!
In particular, I will echo Tom's @tcinla comments on the camo: my hat's off too.
Congratulations!
Thank you Spiros
Not one, but three Viggens! Well done, Rafi.
Thank you John
'Viggen-Viggen-Viggen' it's like playing a slot machine and hitting the jackpot! All great looking builds, Rafi.
Nice to see a SK37E and lovely work with your splinter camouflage.
Thank you George
These all came out exceptionally well, Rafi (@blackmopane). You picked some very difficult paints schemes to do. The complexity of the splinter scheme staggers my mind, and overall red can be very difficult. Well done on all of these.
Thank you George
Long after the paint is dry, I have a refreshed look at the model and correct mistakes using oil colors that are easy to mix to the right tone and leave no paint steaks.
All great builds! The splinter pattern was excellently executed, and I love the weathering on the gray bird. Well done!
Thank you Greg
You have an incredible collection of Viggens, Rafi @blackmopane
Each of them is looking excellent.
As said by others, the splinter camouflage looks fantastic, respect for this paintwork.
Thank you John
Fantastic scale modeling, and a great collection of beautiful Viggens @blackmopane!
Thank you Gary
