Lockheed P-38 Lightning F-5-LOTamiya 1/48

October 23, 2023 · in Aviation · · 22 · 581

Captain Robert L. Faurot (39th FS, 35th FG, 5th AF) P-38 F-5-LO, Port Moresby, New Guinea, 1943

Tamiya kit (61120) with some Eduard aftermarket decals, seat belts and instrument panel. Very nice kit to build, typical excellent Tamiya quality. Kit completed in the beginning of year 2023.

Painted with AK, Tamiya and Vallejo acrylics. Weathering done with same brands products. Marston mats are 3D printed, and mechanic from ICM's 60's kit. I have plans to repaint that mechanic, will happen some day...

  1. Nice job on your build, and the base really adds to the display. That P-38 kit really is something and you got great results from it.

  2. That's a lovely Lightning!

  3. Thanks David, Walt and Greg.

  4. Very nice build of a nice kit!

  5. Very nice paintwork leading to an excellent result.

FYI - the P-38F was in use in New Guinea in fall 1942/spring 1943 (they got used up); that was probably just a typo anyway, no harm no foul.

  6. Fantastic result on the Tamiya Lightning, Jarmo!

  7. Looks great, I especially like how you did the radio wires. I attempted it on my model but gave up. Could be an good excuse to attempt another build...

  8. Great work on the chipping and weathering effects.

  9. Great build and display!

  10. Terrific result from this kit.

  11. Great looking build. The entire presentation is well executed and the paintwork on the plane is top-notch

  12. Excellent work on this Lightning, Jarmo @jp

  13. Thank you all for comments.

  14. Nice work, Jarmo. Excellent chipping.

  15. Beautiful work! The weathering is spot on.

  16. Thanks John and Clint. Chipping and weathering, always unsure if it is enough or too much...

  17. I think your weathering is very good and realistic for the conditions. I hope you don't mind, but I'd like to point out a small but noticeable error. There is a tab on the top of the back armor that should be removed for a side opening canopy. The tab is there to support back opening canopies. See step 45 on your instructions. It's an easy fix, you merely clip it off.

  18. Thanks for comment David. Maybe this error is too obvious, I didn't notice it until you point it out. Like you said, it's an easy fix (and already fixed).
