P-51 B Arma Hobby 31 FG Operation Frantic III

October 31, 2023 · in Aviation · · 30 · 455

Even though the model has been available for over two years, as fate would have it, I only just started buying it now. I heard a lot of good things about it and I approached its construction with very positive energy, having previously collected material to build an aircraft from 15 AF. The cockpit initially overwhelmed me with the amount of details, decals and arrangement options. Everything was great until the front part of the fairing was attached. It was a bit too tall and a bit too narrow. If it looked like this on the left side, it was a bit worse on the right side. Perhaps half of the fuselage was also warped. Anyway, my enthusiasm has dropped. No one has noticed this before, was my model worse than others according to Murphy's Law? Apart from that, everything else was installed very well, even the air grip under the fuselage was, one might say, perfect. Additionally, the flaps are deflected and the cabin fairing is open. Here's another note. If you don't want to swear, choose the Malcolm Hood version. It fits and looks better, and parts of the guides hide imperfections in the cockpit edges. The painting I chose, which was quite advanced, turned out to be quite easy, apart from being a bit labor-intensive, and surprisingly everything turned out (almost) without any corrections. The main gear bays really showed the highest level of detail. This really looks great! We can hang various accessories under the wings, which gives many possibilities. I decided to use decals from outside the kit, because, as I wrote earlier, I wanted a plane with 15 AF. After the construction was completed, I did not hesitate to write an e-mail to the manufacturer with comments on the fit of part number T1. Painting as usual with Mr Color Super Fine Silver and Super Chrome Silver paints. I choose col Charles M. McCorkle group co plane from 31 FG. Ace of MTO with 11 kills on his count. Red And yellow stripes looks challenging but I made them without any problems, and I like it. Also I used figures for diorama with common Hasegawa set, and Resin White Stork Miniatures for Red Army Infantryman. I hope You like my gallery and slideshow, and Lt. Lis return with another Project!

  1. One problem, @lis - the paper 108-gal tanks were only used in 8th and 9th AF. The 15th AF used the 110-gallon metal tanks. Other than that, it looks very nice. There's a lot in that kit to do.

Thank You! Well, Tom, my knowledge is insufficient and the instructions incorrectly suggested such tanks... Too bad, the set doesn't include a metal version, so I'll leave it as it is. I will look to see if there are any aftermarket 110 Gallon tank kits.

  2. Very good work Lis, thumbs up
