Matchbox 1/72 Beaufighter Mk X
It's been a while since I've posted here; I did take a small hiatus from modeling and I've returned to it recently. I recently finished the Matchbox Beaufighter. It was a fun build.
The kit is an early one with multi colored plastic parts. The first thing I did is fill in all the exaggerated panel lines with Perfect Plastic putty, primed it with Tamiya spray can primer. I repeated this process until they were gone. The fit is good, especially the clear parts. One thing I did is cut out the wingtip and leading edge lights. The leading edge lights were simply covered with cellophane tape.
I tried to make the best I could with it out of the box. Looking at the photos I took yesterday there are some things that I could have done better though. If you notice the top color is lightly streaked. All I did is run a new Q-Tip (ear bud) along the sides. My friend Tim Prosser, an expert modeler, told me that the Beau did not carry both rockets and torpedo. It's either one or the other. So I might have to remove one of them. Lately I have to use two kits because I end up loosing parts. Old age I suppose. The model is painted with Testors Acryl gunship gray and Tamiya Sky. The kit decals worked perfectly. My photo setup is very simple and anyone can do it.
Hello David ! Welcome back!
The Beaufighter looks nice. Thanks for showing your “ photo Studio” set up. I’ll give that a try.
Thank you! I appreciate it.
Welcome back after your little break, David @thevid
You clearly still have the skill because you turned this old Matchbox kit into a beautiful Beaufighter.
Well done.
Thanks, I appreciate it very much.
Beautiful job on the Matchbox Beau, David!
You are too lucky to have an original Matchbox Beaufighter, I love so much the colored plastic, the box, well, everything! I wouldn't bother removing the torpedo or the rockets, I would leave everything on! Just like old times! great photo studio setup: simple and effective!
Welcome back after your short break!
Thanks. I'm glad to be back.
🙂 ... Greetings ... 🙂 :
Welcome back to the hobby David, you did a fine job on this Matchbox classic.

Awesome job on this Beaufighter. Love seeing these old kits being built (@thevid).
Awesome build David! Your build looks great and I love the old Matchbox kits.
Hi Bob! Thanks. I love building up old kits.
Welcome back, David. Nice Beaufighter.
Thank you! I appreciate it.
Great model, David (@thevid). I love the Matchbox models with all the cool colors. Glad you are back.
Thank you!
Nicely done David.
Great build of a great old kit. In 1/72nd scale I don't feel that panel lines are a necessity. I have a few old 72nd scale Matchbox kits and like you said, the panel lines are definitely out of scale.
Beautiful job David.
Thanks!
Terrific job on the old Beaufighter.
Thanks I really enjoyed building it.
Excellent build - I love doing the old kits! Well done.
Thanks! It's a lot of fun building them again.
Nicely done! love the photo studio, keeping it simple.
Well done! Love the low-tech solar powered photo studio.
