P-39Q-1 "Devastating Devil" (Arma Hobby 1/48)
The latest kit from Arma Hobby in 1/48 scale β P-39Q which follows their 1/72 Cobra's line. The kit was released in July this year, so it's quite fresh.
I've decided to build the model in a very attractive and unusual camouflage scheme of the 46th FS, Gilbert Islands, Pacific. Cobra in Coral Sand looks interesting.
WIP thread is here β https://imodeler.com/groups/work-in-progress-aircraft/forum/topic/p-39q-arma-hobby-1-48/
@starfar
Dmitry, thatβs a stunning Airacobra! I was unaware of you wip thread so this took me by surprise. Beautiful work in all regards, Arma should use your pics to advertise this kit π
Thanks for sharing
@holzhamer Thanks, Pedro! I've created WIP thread once the kit was ready to paint, so it didn't last long π
Fantastic P-39, Dmitry @starfar! π€© I like that sand color a lot, too. Good choice and a great result here! π
@garybrantley Thank you, Gary!
Sharp job. Love the look of this model in this scheme. Well done!
Thanks Brian!
Wow. Great work on a very unique plane. Your panel lines are amazing. I never get them to come out that sharp. Very nice color choice.
Thank you, Mark! Regarding the panel lines - I think it depends on a kit. In this case the panel lines are sharp and deep enough to keep the wash. And also, I use AMMO oil brushers as a wash - the are stronger than regular oils.
What a fantastic result, Dmitry @starfar
The painting and weathering is really nice.
@johnb Thank you, John!
Superb job and excellent result, Dmitry!
Congratulations!
Thank you, Spiros!

Thanks, Terry!

A really nice looking aircraft
Thanks, George!
Gβday Dmitry (@starfar),
So, no kit is perfect out of the box, only the skill and patience of the builder gets a result like this.
Liked!
@michaelt Thank you, Michael!
Nice work, Dmitry.
Thanks, John!
Whew - a real beauty! I plan to do a Cobra in similar scheme, and checked the WIP thread to see if you mentioned what paint you used. I didn't see it there - can you spill the beans?
@gkittinger Sure! Tamiya XF-23 for the lower surfaces and Hataka 060 "USMC Sand" for the upper surfaces. Also, from Tamiya's range instruction suggests XF-55 as sand color. Anyway, nobody knows what actual colors were π
Thanks! Yes - in most cases, who really knows!
