Republic Thunderbolt Razorback

August 18, 2015 · in Aviation · · 15 · 1.8K

I have been behind in my postings. Hopefully I can catch up and post more about my builds. I have been doing more Armor than planes these days. Here is a . kit. As always painted by hand with Model Master Enamel and slightly weathered with Vallejo wash.

  1. I think it's the 1/48 Tamiya offering. Well done John. Can't wait to see more of your models!

Very very nice P-47. Hand painting is cool.

  3. Thanks 🙂 it is the 1/48. I made a mistake. I have been doing so much armor lately 1/35 is stuck in my head. LOL

  4. Good finish on this, John.

  5. nice Razorback!

  6. John, Walker "Bud" Mahurins' plane? A presentation aircraft, subscribed by the folks from that city. If the USAF is still doing that, I haven't heard about it.
Strictly a WW II occurence. Makes for an interesting aircraft.
Nice job on her, can't go wrong with a Tamiya T-bolt.

    • You are correct sir. Most people choose the Big Chief when building this kit, and I must say the decal of the Indian head is impressive, but I chose this version because I live in Pa. just across the river from NJ and I have family in A.C. NJ.

  7. I'd have never guessed it was hand-painted...really nice job - one of my favorite airplanes. Good work, sir.

  8. I'm an aircraft builder, and don't use an airbrush, so appreciate your nice hand-painted finish. Good looking Jug.

  9. Thanks, I never made the jump to airbrushing. I really could not, since we live in a condo. I would think the association would object to the exhaust.

  10. 🙂 ... Greetings ... 🙂 :
Always room for a P-47, and this one is no exception.
Great work you and Greg need not to worry about the air brush factor.
Both have done beautiful work, if you don't mention the lack of an airbrush for the painting, one will not notice.

  11. That's a great lookin' "Jug" brother! As for airbrushing in a condo, you might consider using CO2 John. I love my setup and would never go back to a compressor; it's quiet and there is no moisture at all. But with a finish like this one, I wouldn't sweat it much, you got the touch!

  12. Whenever I see P-47 my heartbeat increases - I don't know why but I suspect I'm a big fan of this aircraft 😉 Great great job and hard to believe it's brush-painted.

  13. Thanks for all the kind comments guys.
