Gone but not forgotten…Colorful Curtiss…
For something different, I built this Classic Airframes 1/48 Cuban Hawk. A true representative of 1930's color. This airplane had an interesting history, being flown by an American acrobatic pilot in the employ of the Cuban Airforce. It was my only "small airforce" representative for years until it met it's crunching fate at the hands of a cleaning crew taking care of a puffback. I****s. RIP, Cuban Hawk. A little advice, take pictures of ALL your stuff, they may be the only evidence of their existence someday. I rigged it with nice stiff 0.15 piano wire, no warpage or shrinkage here. Maybe I'll do a large scale version one day. Udet's German Hawk "dive bomber demonstrator" is a snazzy looking machine too, with it's colors and scalloping. I don't know if the wife would take to the In-your-face swastikas, though.
now that is a beautiful plane, and may she rest in pieces!
Now THAT'S the way photos should look...clear, sharp, crisp and distinct. And we won't make mention of the illegal cigars (lol).
ha ha , didnt notice the cubans!
Having built that kit (the Navy version) your Hawk is superb, that is one tricky kit. An easy '10'.
Great model, looks very elegant!
Question - how do you mounted the piano wire? Drilled through and through the wing?
Yes. Drill holes and cut to legnth, bend and snap in. The 015 may be a little thick for 1/48, but they would work well in 1/32 with a P-12 or BF2c I think .
Tip- if you should need finer wire for a future rigging project, guitar strings are available down to .008"... and very cheap too-! Find 'em at any music store.
Ditto, I've actually used a couple of old stings off my guitars for various things, theres alot of uses for them in ship, armor, and automotive building.
Looks beautiful!
Another beauty Bill! Great finish and pics and 1/48 to boot. 😉
